This is the most retarded environmental story I've read so far. Apparently, some eco-geniuses in Washington State have enacted a law prohibiting dishwashing liquids high in phosphates. Now facing dishes with food encrustations due to the ineffectiveness of "green" dishwashing detergents, Spokane residents are crossing State lines into Idaho to "smuggle" the good stuff back into their county.
The only thing outlawed is the sale of these detergents, not posession. But the point is, all Washington State has accomplished is to force residents to drive farther to buy soap, thus increasing Spokane residents' automobile carbon footprint and gasoline consumption. It is also very likely driving grocery shoppers across State lines and costing Spokane's local businesses money.
One resident claims to be running his dishwasher on longer cycles, thus wasting more water than he would had more effective detergents been available.
Don't these eco-loonies consider the impact of their stupid programs BEFORE implementing them? Isn't that what they require companies to do before building new plants and facilities? These green-heads are causing more discomfort and pollution than they are reducing!
Oh, but I forgot - this is the State that tried to implement a latte tax some years back.
Truly a blue in the face State. The only redeeming factor is that it's home to the Filson Outdoor Clothing Company.
