So I earnt nothing between January 20th and today, today I got £100 from some work I did, now I won't get paid until the end of April from my new job. When I get paid I'll have to clear the money I owe in rent and to my girlfriend (she's been keeping me alive, quite literally, through the redundany), and I'll be left with NOTHING through April until the last Friday of the month then I'll actually have some money to spend on, well, anything.

I went £5 over my overdraft on the 20th, and I'm getting SIX charges of £6 and a £15 one off charge.

Banks doing this shit made the recession happen. The government makes money off this. This is why it isn't legislated. Marketing didn't help the situation. Its still rampant. We're still getting fucked. God knows how the econamy will stabilise.

But how would anarchy help things? I mean, who would provide you with a job in an anarchichal system and if your employer doesn't pay, to whom will you complain?

And what does currency look like in an anarchy, anyway? Or would we go back to bartering services?

I truly hate that about banks.  I seriously wonder HOW they figure that you can pay for those recurring fees when your account is already clearly over draft ... then they add more.  Obviously you didn't have enough money to begin with so where do they get off deciding they'll take more?  Oh wait, its just a shining example of how they're in with the rest of the money whoring vultures out there.

Yes Hege! I've always hated the way money works, I just wish there was a realistic proposition for an alternative....

There are Islamic Sharia Law banks around the world and in the US that do not charge interest at all. Believe it or not, some of them are weathering this banking crisis just fine because they didn't multiply their lending risks by orders of magnitude.

The thing about free markets is that you can use them to express your own cultural or religious values. We ought not think ourselves helpless here.

For the life of me I don't understand why Christians have chosen to chase the dollar instead of harnessing capitalism to spread even more good to all humanity. We wouldn't have so many people advocating for socialism if we had done this in the first place!  If Muslims can lend each other interest-free money, why can't people of other faiths go and do likewise?
