Back in my high school days in the early 1970's (yes, there were people then), I had a penpal. She lived in Wildwood, Illinois, and her name was Kim. We exchanged letters for five years until she got married at 18 and moved away from home to live in Chicago somewhere, and we lost contact.

I miss her! I know it's selfish but we all are a little, and she was one of the most wonderful friends I had when I was growing up. We shared so much...

Now to the question: how can I find her? Is it possible? I'm living in Europe now, and in this particular country with its wages about a quarter of those in the USA I can't be spending money with various pay-by-search companies to try and make contact. I don't have a credit card anyway. They're still pretty uncommon here. I also understand the need to respect a person's right to privacy, which is why I'm not giving more details about her here. But every year, I still remember her birthday.

Jeepers, I have to rush off to work now, but any suggestions, please?

excellent idea by hunniebunnie. you presumably know her maiden name so that should also help if you just try googling her, perhaps along with the state and city if she has a more commonly-used name.

Hunniebunnie -- thank you, I'll certainly get back to you via a comment on one of your posts if I find anything useful. I haven't tried searching via her old high school. It was called Jackson, if I remember. I have a feeling there would be a few school with that name but maybe I can track the right one by a zip code? Not sure but we'll see.

SW -- Thank you also. I have found some 'matches' but they're in the hands of companies that inform me they'll give me the details for a fee. I frankly don't trust them. Mayb I'm just paranoid ;)

I've used classmates.com - you have to know the school and the graduation year.

    good luck

I bet that finding your friend could be done through alot of free service online too (peoplefinder.com; classmate.com. using google) stuff like that.
But why simply not focusing on finding her parents and ask about her. They might still live in the same city. Anything they might say can be important. Talk with someone of your classmates: some may know something too.

    I wish you good luck!!
