  Ah, but that's not how representative democracy works. The will of the majority is supposed to be what the government does. State schools educate the vast majority of Californians, and the people of California are wildly, wonderfully diverse, in everything from skin colour and ancestral origin to language and religion. Public education must be inclusive, and that means accepting many different religions, races, cultures and philosophies. So long as a child does nothing illegal, s/he must feel included in the school's culture-- and that includes gay children and children of gay parents.
  
  And we have got to the point at which foreign aid works on idiotic minority principles. The United States, a country in which the poorest person is still better off than the average person in 70% of the world, denies food and medical supplies to countries whose public health policies advocate using condoms to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS and other diseases.
  
  It is more important to the sitting president of the USA to preach his fundamentalist line of "abstinence" than it is to feed children who are dying of starvation or to stop the spread of fatal diseases.
