In recent news other than the Jean Benet Ramsey case this has been the topic of discussion. This issue affects my generation. Even though I am Latina, I am very concerned about the welfare of this great nation. Just because I am Latina doesn't mean that I think we should grant these people amnesty, on the contrary I think they should go home. I know that I will probably get a lot of comments on this touchy subject, but some light on the other side needs to shine on this. Illegal immigration has become a plague in recent years. I understand why people leave their countries and immigrate here, I get it. What I don't seem to understand is why these people don't try to adapt to the country that is taking them in? I hate the fact that I can't call any customer service line and just get served in English. Why is there an option to hear the message in Spanish? If we as a country are going to offer it in Spanish to accommodate our illegal Hispanic counterparts, than we should offer services in every other language that makes up this country. I understand why Spanish is chosen, the largest minority are Latin people. My main frustration is the fact that my fellow Latinos choose not to adapt to this country. They choose not to learn English, not to become legally documented, they allow their work visa’s to expire, and keep living here like nothing is wrong about what they are doing. In recent months I have talked to my fair share of Latino’s about this topic with results that anger me very deeply. I hate hearing how they could care less about this country, how they are just saving up enough money just to move back Mexico, or how they take jobs Americans don’t want. I know that this is not all, but a large portion have shared these ideas with me. I believe that there are a lot of Americans that would take the jobs that they do, just not at the wages they are doing them at. Americans know their rights and aren’t going to allow an employer to take advantage of them. That fact that these people are willing to take these jobs at lower wages brings down out economy. Blue collar Americans have to take jobs at lower wages because salary is not competitive. Americans can’t live on what they are making; the cost of living is too high. You’re probably thinking how can Mexicans live on this income and Americans can’t? Simple they have more people living in home, which makes it easier to share the costs. In all honesty I don’t mind them being here if they would just follow our laws. The ironic part about all of this is that if we or any other country would go to their country and do what they are doing here, they wouldn’t like it and would be just as angry as we are here. The only thing I ask is how would you feel if you were out of job because someone else that is not a citizen came in a did at lower pay?
