Its a famous Bill Hicks rant. Youtube - bill hicks marketing and you'll get loads of links.

This commericalist, Faschist BULLSHIT is really starting to piss me off.

Loans

I got a flyer through the door from Shopacheck, a loan company, offering me a minimum loan of £500 and upwards. The APR is 254.5%. Yeah you fucking heard me, 254.5%. Compared to a market average of 10ish% APR. Oh and the loan period is 40 months.

If someone was desperately poor (and desperately stupid), they would go for that, probably because of the picture of a happy, smiling middle class woman and the pretty layout. Its a ploy by those capitalist shits to make us slaves to debt until we die.

Then, the other day, I saw a documentary on credit cards. They made up a fake (shit) card, with a high APR, no interest free period ETC, but let people put their own picture on the front. They sold LOADS of these hoax cards.

Each time you see an advert for a loan, credit card, whatever, instead of watching it mindlessly, look through the pictures.

Products

Gillette, the best a man can get. The Lynx effect. The Ford Feeling. Everywhere you look its crammed down your throat, using the most tacky simple bullshit possible. Like Gillette Fusion Power Razor - come on its just a load of semi-meaninless words and a pretty package.

Look at adverts for products cynically.

Its all part of society - commercialism, debt, money, government and religious propoganda, the rich poor devide.

Look at it! Stop living with your eyes shut!!

Ehhh, Seer, I work in marketing ... and I'm not going to kill myself.  A lot of the higher ups who are too busy keeping their thumb up their ass, lighting cigars with 100 dollar bills are the ones who request whatever it is we do.  Some of it comes from scratch, but that's usually the piddly stuff like 'Oh, why don't I print this in THIS size, not THAT size.' or 'I decided to do this because the paper looked too crowded.' The upper echelon are who come up with the main concepts, bark out the orders, wait to see results and then nit pick the stupid thing ... and often times for me, its not until AFTER I'm done that I find out what its for.  So don't blame marketing, blame the sharks higher up that managed to get their thumbs on a few good peons so they could make them do their dirty work.  Economy is too bad to turn down good work ... so, that said, you're right, people do need to look more closely at what they've got in front of them.

Hege, why don't you try to leave? Its like people that work in banks or the finance industry. Yes they don't call the shots, and your right, its the sharks higher up, the snakes in ivory towers, but you could get another job?

I got offered work in the financial trade, years ago. Could have made a bit of money, but I'd rather have nothing to do with the industry. Do you know what I mean?

Like someone said to me - "Every snowflake pleads not guilty in an avalance"

Seer, at this point in time, I can't afford to be between jobs ... and believe me, my resumes and applications are out there at MANY other places.  Its certainly not for lack of trying that I haven't been able to get away from this yet.  I totally know what you mean about not wanting anything to do with it even though it would have been nice in one way or another.  At this point, I'm not living in the lap of luxury, I'm getting by, but if I found something else that would get me by just the same I'd be whole heartedly moving on.  Some of the things I see and hear about are just ludicrous.  Eh, so by that quote, are you saying that I'm part of the problem even if I am just one little part and I'm guilty huh?  Well I'll let you know that I resent that a little ... I can't help it that yeah, so sue me, I'm guilty of wanting a roof over my head, food in my mouth, clothes on my back and my bills paid every month.  Moving on though, not too worried about it.

Anyone into that crazy payday loan garbage, check out www.prosper.com.  That may be a help.  I don't get paid to say that.  It's a neat site.

Never needed it, but I mean to loan some money there when I have some to loan!

Hedge, I'm trying to say we're all part of the problem. I know you can't afford to be between jobs, but at least you're looking! I feel sorry for you. With any luck soon you'll be doing something slightly more ethical!

One of my friends had a job marketing storecards. She said they used to sit around trying to think of ways to get people to accept this 40% card, making billions.

While this was happening, another of my friends was whinging to me about how high her overdraft interest is, and telling me that finance is possibly the most evil thing in the world. She worked for HSBC (she then went into INSURNACE, possibly a more evil trade than banking!)

And annonymous, nobody has ever clicked on that link. Nobody will EVER click on that link.

Do you reckon its some sort of bot virus? Or is it a person? hehe, if it was a person, pretty dumb to post it here.

(Annonymous, if you are a person, and you read this, you are fucking dumb beyond belief for posting that here) :)

    I fully hear ya seer.
    All that marketing crap.
It's so on the nose and straight out misrepresentation. But then, what you want people working in jobs that have integrity and ethics?
Like what huh? You could work for the government maybe?
I think jobs that have that are so true and stuff are very few and far between.
And what boss isn't after all trying to screw you or fleece you of overtime or whatever.
    The world we live in.

But then, what's with that handbag scammer that keeps popping up everywhere?
Like you say, dumb beyond belief.
that's marketing, they just don't quit, like never say never. But all those door knockers too, remember, insurance, religion, i dunno.
Maybe the anonymous hand bagger deserves deletion, but then again, maybe it's appropriate to see just what is going on in this world and how it touches us all?

keep up the fine social commentary.

    Thank you blaster.

I'm far too much of an ethical person to work in Governement. Well, MY government anyway, I live in Britain. And our government and ethics don't go together.

Anonymous handbagger? Lol. Still mastercard timing, we chat about the overbearingness of marketing, then are handbagger pops up.

What do you do for a living? Are you a Blaster?
