In fairness, it pays quite well on an hourly basis.

But its really shit! I'm a chef, and I've done fresh cooking. This new job is dirt cheap food, served sizzling hot on a skillet, mostly chargrilled or microwaved.

The team need a boot up their arse and a few of their practices are shit.

But fuck it.

In other news, everything I had planned for the summer is on hold depending on what I can afford to do this year. I would have been ok if it wasn't for getting made redundant and spending over a month unemployed, and those fucking faschists at the job centre denying me jobseekers allowence because I had got a new job and was waiting to start (The hardworking in Britain are not TAXED, not rewarded)

I'm not being funny, in this town I'm lucky to have a fucking job at all!

Since the start of the recession, and Gordon Brown's devout commitment to doing NOTHING about it, things have got really bad. Most my friends are redundant too now.

Still, with a backward governement like this, and an unstable class system, negative anarchism and fascism are spreading. Ten years, I think, and good old Britain will be politically, socially and economically like Russia - cheers Brown, cheers banks, cheers US government.

At least you are working now, and Spring is coming, I can't help it I am an optimist, good luck with the new job.

I agree with mobil ... at least you ARE working.  But on the other hand ... yeah, nice job all of these high powered officials are doing isn't it?  I heard on the news that either Obama, or other politicians close to him, predicted the recession in the US to be over by next year because of all of these stimulus plans, but unemployment would probably still continue to increase.  What the hell kind of crap is that?

having a job is a good thing, don't knock it.  Sure it's not like the "old days", but then the old days is what caused these new miserable days.

i'm jobless, not cause of lay offs, just jobless :O
so, i think being a chef is cool. always wanted to
enroll in culinary arts.... i'm not good in the cooking area though ;]

Must be tough to be a food artist in a hamburger world...maybe after this tough economic phase things will pick up. Economy's the pits right now.

    hey thanks guys!

Today was really good, I mean I miss the old days but its still quite good fun. And I suppose being poor isn't too bad, I can listen to punk without feeling 'phony'.

Ampbox, I wouldn't recommend the culinary arts as a profession, the hours are long, the pay is low, you get no respect, its got the highest suicide rate of any profession in Britain, waitresses and waiters and bar staff and managers will ALL fuck up ALL the time and you will continually be babysitting them without and praise or reward, customers complain sometimes for fun, you burn yourself all the time, and to top it off the heat makes the skin on the side of your testies and between your buttocks (and sometimes even on your armpits) rot with sweat, it stinks and itches and flakes and is commonly known as 'chefs arse', then there's the irregular eating and sleeping patterns which destroys your body and mind and has just been linked to cancer, and causes exhaustion, which makes you collapse and sob bitterly, before going into a comatose like state (one I saw a chef pass out for about 12 hours), and you have no time for a personal life or any form of life at all because you get absorbed by that shit.

After a while you need to chef, you need the heat and the exhaustion, the burns and sweat because you don't know what to do without it.

I recommend trying to qualify as a homeless person or drug addict.

Any way you can whip up something interesting five minutes before the restaurant closes and give samples to everybody>

    You need an outlet.

Kind of like Iron Chef... you have set ingredients and somehow you need to make real food out of this junk.

  • ampbox said on Mar 16, 2009....

really? i'll just leave my wanna be culinary @ home then.

i'll just stick being a CLS, although i think it's a far more stressful job hehe :O

I did have one job as a chef where I had to do "Iron Chef" things every morning, my boss would order what was cheap or what she thought would be fun (sometimes I'd add random stuff into the mix to see what happened), and I had to 'create' 5 specials on a specials board every 2 days - one veggie, one white meat, one red meat, one soup and one just for fun.

    Sounds great then.
You could even smuggle in a few ingredients from home.
What would the food be like if you added garlic salt?  cumin?  paprika?

When I suggested giving samples.  I meant to co-workers.  Giving to customers would probably skeeve them out.\
