So I thought it would be a good idea after posting my very first reply to make my very own post.

The norm is for people in introductions to speak about one's self however I disagree with this concept. I believe we can't fully explain who we really are and I thought I would share my thoughts, feelings and opinions on the subject.

I believe we have three different personalities, personas, minds and such that makes us who we are. The first being what people see, or more to the point what we let them see. This personality is the most malleable, some subtle and some not so subtle changes depending on who we are speaking with and in what context.

The second personality is how we see ourselves and how we would like others to see us.
We keep this hidden to a certain degree, some very close people see this and this personality is the most like our true selves but only those closest to us get to see who we are.

These two are very similar but are governed what sort of media we use to communicate.
Face-to-face everyone has a certain 'shell' they use, an inate defensive system.
In my experience of various mediums of communication I would say we drop this guard somewhat and are more "us" when we aren't in person.

I believe that the very core of who we are is hidden from even ourselves. That very essence that binds our spirit and body into one and enables us to travel in this journey that is life.
This, I believe is the third personality, in root, the true corporeal self. Maybe this is where we go back to when the journey ends?

I guess I went a little deep with this on my first post but at least it's more interesting than "Hi....my name is, i'm from, i like, bit of info, etc".
I would very much enjoy any of your own opinions on this thought train, what views and feelings do you have?

So.  I'll leave you with that and let's see where it leads!

Thanks for reading!

    Welcome to SoulCast, Dauntless! :)

Believe it or not this subject has been on my mind yesterday, and it is a subject my life partner and I discuss quiet often because of how we met online  - using different kinds of medium of communication - before we met offline/ in person.

I would link a blog containing my opinion on this matter (I need a bit of time to write them down, lol... and the household chores are waving their hands to me saying "We can´t magically go away, you know?!").

For now, I would like to say, I am glad to welcome you to SoulCast, and it is such pleasure to have - as MeMy said [waves to MeMy] - a spiritual soul and obviously a very warm person join the community.

Wishing you a wonderful journey in SC!

    P.S.

And of course, congratulations to you and des.  :)

Thank you for the welcome memy! I'll certainly be taking good care of des!
She already takes care of me in turn! lol

I can understand about those household chores paper! Des and I are in the process of a huge spring clean and I've got a pile of ironing as big as a small hill to get on with! lol, lucky I enjoy it! (yup! a man who enjoys ironing!) I'd be happy to read your thoughts on this subject, the human psyche really fascinates me, an exploration of the inside as well as the outside.

Des, my sweet angel! What can I say? Thank you for bringing me into the world of Soulcast, a huge part of your life. I cannot wait for us to share our experiences with the members here at soulcast as they share their own!

hello dauntless, good to meet you.

i agree with your personality catagorization here. i recently had the opportunity to see myself in video for the first time in my life a few days ago. it was a very eye opening experience! it showed me at least in some ways how others percieve me, and it was much different than i thought that others percieve me, if that makes any sense. my point is, i guess, that it helped to explain some of what i thought were 'strange reactions' to things i would say. it has changed my perception of myself in some subtle ways, which in turn has changed the way others are reacting to me, at least in my perception.

and yes, i always talk like this :-)

    welcome to soulcast.

insightful blog.  Do you think there are some people who through contemplation have at least an idea of who their deeper self is?

Daunt, very interesting post, that's for sure.  I think you're right, people have many different personalities though, maybe not just three.  Maybe there is one general, core personality and the rest are all layers, weakening and changing the further oustretched they are.  For instance, ok, you have your core personality, the one hidden from even yourself ... then you have who you feel you are/want others to feel you are, which you may not share or you may only share with those absolutely closest to you (including significant others, certain family members of your choosing, certain friends [aka Best Friend]), then you have a family personality, closer to you still, but not quite the whole picture, and most likely this is what less immediate (or less close) family members see,  then you have the personality that others see, whether you're aware of it or not, and this is shared with a lot, and then it goes even further with a shell of a personality that you may portray to people who you hardly know and do not want them to know about you either.  Layers upon layers, each one different, but from the personality layer that is stretched the farthest out, that is the least like you, all are alike in more ways as they progress inwards, back to the core.  Whew, that's enough thinkin' for a bit, lol.

Also, nice to meet you, glad you're here!  I hope you enjoy your stay at SoulCast!

Welcome to SC. Very good first post. I believe you're going to be interesting.

    I also believe I don't know myself.

Color me intrigued. Welcome to SC!

I do believe it is possible to not know your true self nearly as well as some think they do.

Welcome dauntless....very interesting post....I've never heard that dissection of personalities before....makes sense.
  • gingersoul said on Mar 12, 2009....
Dauntless......well.......i have to take it as a given that you have heard of subconscious, right?

What you talk about is what the ol'  Freud had pondered for years....beside the fact that a cigar CAN be a only cigar, he got extremely interesting intuitions about the study of the Self....

One of which is what you call three personas......he was calling Ego, Supe-ego and Subconscious....
Jung was talking about reaching the different layers of our understanding through symbols and ancestral recollections......

See......we just change the names of the things, but the things are always the same. And the mystery of our own self too.

If i dont know myself how can i claim to know anybody else? And yet we are so silly to say it. And believe in it....

Hos geldiniz (welcome in Turkish).  I think we have at least three personalities, probably a lot more, because different people bring out different aspects of our personality that remain hidden with others.  That's why I think it's important to have more than one person in our lives.  And, of course, people online are often more open, especially in an anonymous format like this, as you are about to discover.

Thank you for all your responses! I'm glad to see so many views and opinions.

I will get time to respond more fully to some of the comments but really busy at the moment. When I get 5 minutes I'll sit down and respond properly.

Thanks again! Keep the views coming! It's good to see :)

I'm very interested in different types of personality systems. There's astrology, the Myers Briggs system, the enneagram, soul signs of Rosemary Altea, the Michael Spirits system. I think that all of them have a lot to contribute towards defining who we are in comparison to others. They all get under the surface to something deeper, something real.
