quietone, That is such an awesome painting! You really should do more of them. Are you selling them? I think you could. Did you do this one with the Bob Ross method too?
CW ~ yes it is his method. I have to learn to quit puttering and get bold! LOL But, it was fun. Maybe some day I will sell them, when I think they are good enough to put a price on! Thanks
Ok Quiet, I am sitting here looking at your wolf picture and I'm going to be very critical cause I consider the wolf to be my spirit animal. That along with the grizzly bear and the mountain lion, wolverine, raccoon, beaver, skunk, possum, fox, gopher, rat and field mouse.
He looks good Quiet, you did well on his eyes, he looks like he just ate Red Riding Hood and is on his way to Grandma's house. I give you an A on this one, but don't let it go to your head, cause I don't know shit about painting ok?
Mary can say "wow" now... specially after we all go , awwwwwwwwww. I will try to catch it on video...but yeah, that is what she did after seeing your painting...:
ginger ~ I doubt I will ever do the human body in a painting.. only at a distance. I have tried, not pretty! LOL but then, I could do a picasso abstract of them I suppose.
pickers ~ thanks kido!
meems ~ I don't think I will try many more. But, to get good, I guess you have to practice..
mobil ~ trust me, I will leave the rest of those wild animals right in the woods! Thanks
moon ~ the thing I like is his eyes do follow you no matter where you walk in the room. Now that is cool!
msStar ~ thanks
Twyla ~ I don't get that feeling, I just think he is watching.
hege ~ thanks. do you paint?
beyond ~ ha, I'd make you guess what the next one was instead of telling you ! LOL
paper ~ awe, how cute! you tell those girls thank you. :) I do hope you can catch them on video.
Memy ~ wow you are still around! ha, good to see you my friend.
Quiet - Heh, the most I paint would be paint by numbers, although I have dabbled here and there. Mostly I just don't get the time to explore that part of my "creative psyche" anymore, but I definitely appreciate a good painting show (Bob Ross is awesome for soothing one's nerves) and I know what I like.
This would look so wonderful in my parents' house. There is hunting stuff all over and pictures of woodsy animals. If I saw it in a store or something I would totally buy it.
I like this -i know how hard it is trying to get the eyes and the fur correct the way that you want it to be.I give you an A for the first attempt -you have set yourself a pretty high standard.I like the back ground colour blend,is that a back wash that you have painted over? I used to do that when i painted on canvas,I would mix a really obscure colour and get it on a sponge and sponge it on the whole canvas in different patterns and shades and shapes, wait for it to dry and then paint the picture over it.
If this is your first attempt at an animal, I would say it's outstanding. I wouldn't give up at all. If it's not exactly what you pictured in your head when you started out, then practice will only help you improve. I've seen gallery pieces that weren't as well done. Remember, art is about expression and interpretation, not about reproduction, so I prefer this slightly impressionistic type of rendering to something that could be mistaken for a photograph. Well done. Paint on, my dear, paint on!
Oh quiet, this is wonderful! First attempt?! Please don't stop painting animals now. If this is a first attempt, the sky is the limit from here on.
You say, "when I think they are good enough to put a price on. . .". How good a painting is will always be in the eye of the viewer and this viewer thinks it's beautiful. Eyes of man or beast are always one of the most difficult things to show 'life' in but you have truly captured it :-)
rmuxagirl ~ Thanks. I think my brother will like this painting too. He loves wolves.
cuppa ~ yes it is an underpainting with acrylic then overpaint with oil. It was my first time combining the two. ot sure I liked it or not! haha. thanks
kruu ~ yes, you are exactly right. I have forgotten that. expression and interpretation is so very important. it makes and "artist" who they are. thanks for the reminder.
pusscat ~ well, thanks gril. you know the eyes was the easiest thing on this whole picture! I'd like to do some raccons.. I'll see! haha. thanks
quiet, he's always following you with his eyes? maybe he thinks you're little red riding hood... :-)
yup, i can imagine the combination of acrylic and oil (although i haven't done that myself... just acrylic and pastels). very practical. acrylic for large volumes of color and broad strokes, easier to handle, then overlay with oils to give body and detail.
moon ~ I don't think I am going to like acrylic for the fact that it dries too fast and leaves no time for dabbing! haha. Yup, I can be a dabber. But, I am willing to give it a go. Me, ha.. little red riding hood! now that was funny!
Oh my....quietone. I really am sorry to have missed this. This is really good! You have more talent than you ever give yourself credit for. I tried painting this weekend, and it turned out so crappy I will mail you my left-over paints and brushes....ha. Very nice work! The detail is amazing. You have something else besides talent....patience!
