Let me first describe what either is.

A dozen human is someone who goes with the flow, this type of person walks on a well stepped on path. They rarely go on themselves and are rather social beings. They thrive in company often they are joiners and join a activity just for the company of other humans.

They "swallow" everything they get taught, rarely they think and criticize therefore they can easily follow dictators and similar. This can make them rather dangerous.
Rarely they think of themselves as to what I described above, yet for the majority of them this holds true.

Many religions host this kind of people, they take their book as sacred but few have read other "holy books" out of i.e. curiosity. Many are simple minded and hard to discuss (argue?) with.

The main thing of importance is that they never criticize what they get taught and they think in lines. (simple minded)

So what do I mean by a "free" human?

They are free of any limitations of mind, often they enjoy to ponder and even criticize things.
They are not afraid to walk alone, some even enjoy the peace of being alone.
I find them often to philosophise about a large variation of things.

Being free in their mind can make them rather unpopular with some people.

I believe my place would be the later one; my mind is free.
Where do you fit?

Note! Of course this is a rather big generalization, there are many other factors that could be included. I just try to keep this simple so everyone can follow.

I hope you find what you seek,
Voltaire

I'm definitely not a dozen human.

I think my mind is very free and I love to walk and be alone (but not lonely, there's a difference). Thinking is most enjoyable.

I was expecting nothing less from you Beyond.

And I agree 100% alone and lonely are two different things.

Voltaire...first of all..congratulations for the choice of your username...:-)

Second, what you call dozen human...i call it zombie...:-)

Zombie like living in hordes and not questioning and not using their brain...

I don't consider myself one of them. I am a free mind because i am curious.

This is what makes of a mind a free one.
I question and i am curious, i want to know what is behind, i don't stop at the mere surface of the appearance. I like to see the other side of the fence..

I am used to be considered eccentric, exotic, different.....
They listen to me and often they go "Oh you".....
Yes, me. And i am proud of being me and not afraid to stand alone.

But, as BeyBey said, being alone, i don't feel necessarily lonely  .....;-)

    Star,

    Glad to hear. ,:-)

    Ginger,

I was looking for a fitting username, and as I just recently had read Candide it wasn't so hard to choose one. ;)

I actually quite enjoy this nickname, it suits me rather well. ,:-)

I was trying to be polite but basically a zombie and dozen human is the same thing, agreed. ;P

It's good to hear that your free minded to.

    Beyond,

Are you reffering to Aphrodite? (Greek mythology)

  • beyondtheveil said on Mar 11, 2009....
voltaire- No, I'm referring to our very own gingersoul.

Although it could be easy to confuse the two by talking about them.

BeyBey.....awww......you really left me speechless...and said by me, this is quite a statement...

    Beyond,
I am well aware of who you referred to.
Aphrodite and gingersoul, they must be twins then I figure. ;D

    Ginger,
I agree to disagree, you see for our current "democracy" to work as effective as possible it requires a "opposite" to compete against.
    Why?
Well then "we" have to be effective and we share a in common goal, this can help tremendously to unite people.

As free minds often are criticizing society this creates a sort of "opposite", which helps to keep everything in "balance", neither politicians, company's or the people get the overhand over the others.

    Voltaire

Voltaire.....uhmm...I understand that  a complete uniformity of ideas is humanly impossible...

Even in the most "illuminated" societies of the past there has always been somebody who at one point was professing the "opposite" as you say...
I am thinking about the golden age of Athen, for example...

(just to remain in a Greek context...lol..)

So if a democracy is not a communion of free minds directed to work in the same direction for the best of the society, the fact that there are too many free minds has seen as an obstacle, and not a strength, by you?

I see what you say....the balance that comes from the criticism and the putting things to a test, is a tool for not falling in a totalitarian society....i agree...

But...if a society is made of free minds wouldn't be a great society to live in? Or should still need an "opposite" to work good?

    Just keeping the ball rolling.......:-)

  • Voltaire said on Mar 12, 2009....
It is impossible in the long run, but temporarily it's possible. Just look at WW II.

What I'm saying is not that "free minds" are bad, the very opposite.
What I say is that they should consist of two parts; i.e. politicians and critics. (free minds)

A society of only free minds could also fall apart, but from the inside, you see in theory this sounds great.
Though as we enter reality a lot of great minds will hardly agree on how to run society in the long run.
Some might leave because of disagreements and then all of the sudden a few rule again.

There has to be a opposite to keep either side performing.
Else there is no real reason to keep performing, unless you are mentally into it 100%.

    Voltaire

    A old saying I got from a old teacher comes to mind M-M&I;
If there is no path...Build a road.

    Or something along those lines.

Yeah I already knew what you stated though. ;P
