If you ask me one genre of music that I will not get bored of, it's definitely Power Ballad. Also known as Monster Ballad, I believe its popularity reached its peak in the 1980s (especially in the late 80s) when I was still a kid back then. Wished I was there back in the good dark 80s.

Pinkjellybeans has blogged about this on What is the best song ever.

Power ballad is always synonymous with hair metal. In every hair metal album, there would be at least one power ballad in it.

I love the consistency in every power ballad songs. It started out slowly, usually with a piano tune or the keyboard...and then when it comes to the chorus, heavy drumming will be heard and usually followed by a distorted guitar solo or a saxophone solo. And towards the end, the song turns slow again.

Some of my favourite rockers who produced power ballads are R.E.O Speedwagon, Foreigner, Toto, Europe, Firehouse, Whitesnake, Creed, Cheap Trick, Queen, Heart, Def Leppard, Aerosmith, Bryan Adams, Alias, Guns N Roses, Journey, and so much more......even Frankie Goes To Hollywood (The Power of Love) and Wham! (Careless Whisper).

Some of my all time favourite power ballads are (Not in order):
1. Love of a Lifetime (Firehouse)
2. Is This Love? (Whitesnake)
3. Everything I Do (Bryan Adams)
4. Careless Whisper (Wham!)
5. When I Look Into Your Eyes (Firehouse)
6. Can't Fight This Feeling (REO Speedwagon)
7. The Flame (Cheap Trick)
8. The Power of Love (Frankie Goes To Hollywood)
9. I Live My Life For You (Firehouse)
10. Africa (Toto)
11. We Are The Champion (Queen)

They are just too many to name....too many excellent power ballads. I could listen to it every day and I won't get bored of it.

What is your favourite?

That 80s metal was great for its time, and I was a fan (especially of GnR), but modern European metal totally rocks my world now! Metal has evolved so much, too bad few in America know about it...

Then again, even in the 80s, hair metal was often too pop for me. I was more into Metallica, Iron Maiden.

I Remember You! I love that song. I always try to sing it at karaoke and I can never get enough air for that last scream. Besides, I suck at karaoke. :(

The reason why hair metal is infectious is because it's pop oriented. Hence, the name...pop metal.
Good to know that StrangeOne is a Metallica and Iron Maiden fan. But Metallica is not my type.

    I suck at karaoke too...
