Well, not funny as in LOL, but funny in a weird way.

I've spent the better part of two days and nights pretty much motionless and up close and personal with my heating pad.  I pulled a muscle in my lower back.  How I did this, I have no idea, but with me and the weirdness of my back, it doesn't take much.

I haven't really done much of anything except fight this pain ever since it started.  Just trying to stay calm and relaxed.  I didn't keep up with what's going on here.  Reading posts took more concentration that I had.  I'd read one and try to come up with a coherent comment and the pain crowded out all thought except, it HURTS.

It really does a number on your mind.  Your attention focuses on the pain, and thinking about anything else takes a lot of effort.  I had to activate my new cell phone yesterday and I almost started crying on the phone with AT&T because it hurt so much.  That would certainly have been embarrassing.  I was loopy from pain medication, and frustrated and upset because I was supposed to go to my great-niece's first birthday party on Saturday and now I won't be able to. The pain is much better this morning, but making a three and a half hour drive would be overdoing it.  Oh well...

I hope I didn't jinx it by saying it felt a lot better.  That would suck greatly.

Hey meems - when I know you're in this much pain, it makes my lovely e-mails from you all the more special (if the could possibly be any more special to me :-)

The thought of someone I care so much about being in that much pain, pains my heart darling.

I think you need to send hubby out to go make buddies those young guys that hang round on street corners with little packets of tablets in their pockets ;-)  Imagine what pain relief you'd get there hee hee!  sorry hun - its not funny at all but you know what a right banana i am ((((((((((((MMM))))))))))))

I'm sorry Mimi. I happen to think that pain is not a bit funny and I am so sorry to hear that it had you held captive for the last two days. Feel better soon. ( the only good thing about pain is that you usually forget exactly how it felt when it goes away!) Thus explaining multiple children in families! Hugs. Woman

MissMimi, I live with my heating pads. I know how you feel. I have been dealing with for almost 2 years. It sucks and I would not wish this on ANYONE.

Hi MissMimi, I missed seeing this till now, but I'm sorry you won't be able to make your great-neices party.  Hope you feel better soon!  Hubby keeps throwing his back out every few months, and I know it ain't fun.

MsMeems - I hope you are feeling better.  Any chance you could get to a massage therapist?  That usually helps my back immensely.  What about a little arnica gel (homeopathic remedy)?
  • GrapeKoolaid said on Feb 27, 2009....
I know all about escaping pain...  Or at least the desire to...  Don't try to do too much.  I know that sometimes the pain is all you can think about, but try to relax as much as possible and let the medication, meditation and time do the work that is necessary.

Hope you're back to your chipper self in no time!  :)

    [gentle hugs]

i hope you are feeling better and stay that way! hey, when i get down in my back, the epsom salt is in the tub waiting. take care.
  • MissMimi said on Feb 27, 2009....

    Okay let's try this again.

paperdoll -- Thank you, my friend for your gentle good wishes.  Your gentleness is one of the things I really like about you.

Uni --  it was rough for a while when I got up for a while, but I'm fairly comfortable now.  Let's hope this is the light at the end of the tunnel.

fraggie -- I've been a good girl about taking it easy, but I was going stir crazy.  I knew the kitchen probably looked like a landfill what with mrM fending for himself.  So I got up and shoveled out the worst of it.

Hege -- Hey, what's normal?  Heehee... only kidding.  This is one kind of pain I can particularly do without.

peecee -- I'm laughing thinking about mrM looking up the guy on the corner.  If you knew mrM, you'd be laughing too.  :D  Thank you for the good wishes and your e-mail.

woman -- LOL  I'm of the opinion that if I could have gotten my babies in the dairy case at the grocery store, I would have.  I remember the pain, and I did it a second time anyway.

LucyT -- Yes, it really does do a number on your mental state.  I almost ripped the phone guy a new one because he was confusing me.  Heat seems to be very effective for pain relief.  Well, heat and mass quantities of drugs.  ;)

princess -- A heating pad is my all-purpose cure for a lot of things, especially cold feet.  It does suck, but it will be better in a day or two.

wombie!  Tell mrwombie that I sympathize  about a million percent.  I'm happy to see you.  How have you been?

wishy -- I've never heard of arnica gel.  Thanks for the tip!

GrapeApe -- You must be feeling brighter?  Excellent news.  Meditation is another good tip.  Ommmmm.   Ommmmm.  Getting all panicky about the pain only intensifies it, so I try to be calm and relaxed.

CDub -- Thanks, CDub.  I think it's slowly getting better.

boden -- Thank you for the link.  :)
lionesss -- Oooh, a heat lamp sounds heavenly.  About 10 years ago when the same thing happened, I used a TENS unit for a time.  It scrambles the pain signals the nerves send out.  It was a miracle worker.

MeMy -- i bet a soak in a hot tub would feel great.  I'm doing better, thanks.  :)

Crazy as ever, MissMimi!  Anything less would be something to write about here!  Hi, and have a good day, week, month, thought.....ha...

I hurt my back with weight training. My doctor fixed it by informing me that weak stomach muscles are often the cause. When the stomach isn't strong enough for a particular activity, force is delivered to the back muscles but the leverage is so poor, the back muscles are strained from the effort. The sit-ups I use are two fold. Lie flat on your back with the backs of your knees touching the floor. Touch the floor with the small of your back for 5 seconds or longer. Release. Do this at least 5 times alternating with the second part. Part 2 - lift your knees, put hands behind your head. Lift your shoulders 6 inches or so and hold it for 5 seconds or more. Do this 5 times, alternating with the first part. Doing more of them for longer time spans will naturally increase your strength. If this gets too easy and you want to go crazy, hold something heavy 10-20 lbs.) behind your head to add weight you must lift. I've never gone to this level though and I don't hurt my back anymore. *DM
