Well, I finally did it. I've been working for the same company for 4 years. The company is small, very small and mean there is only me and the owner. I've been working part-time with zero benefits, but my pay per hour is quite high the area. This has all been great, but lately I have just wanted more than what my job was offering. When I brought this up to my boss he basically told me if I was interested figuring out how to get into the human resource market I could do it on my own time, as long as it worked with our current path (engineering) and use any of the office supplies necessary.

Well, I've rattled my brain trying to figure out how to come up with some sort of plan and to tell you the truth I'm second guessing myself everytime and wondering if I can't sell this to myself who else is going to believe me. Regardless, I continue to go to work and do my job.

Then, the other day I came across a government solicitation for a single position. I being the naive idiot that I am remember that he told me I could come to him with whatever I want. Did just that. I told him I found this solicitation in the newspaper and was interested in bidding on it. He was basically floored and since this time has given me written notice of what he needs for me to do within 2 days to find a replacement for myself. I.e. create a job description, pay rate, advertisement and training. He has told me to look at it from his standpoint this is a business perspective and if I'm looking he has to find a replacement.

I guess the mistake I made was actually believing that he was interested in my well being and growth as a person because we have worked together for so long. I was gravely mistaken. If I had know this was the attitude he would take I would never had told him in the first place. I would have done what everyone else is this day and age does; find another job and boogie.

The bottom line is I don't know what my future is with this company anymore, but now I will have to spend more time searching for a full time position and be more agressive about my search. I least I've learned my lesson no matter how much you feel the business owner wants to see you grow as a person. It isn't really true, they are just using you to meet their own needs. Live and Learn.
