I promised that I will no longer be rude in my blogs. But I just have to complain about something unacceptable to me.

I cannot understand how SoulCast chooses blogs to be featured in a given day. Of course, what is obvious is that they choose them by using certain criteria such as the age of the blog (how many hours or minutes has it been posted?), the number of views, and the number of comments. But why is it that my post "If Pluto..." which is 19 hours old, with 47 views, and 10 comments is buried in page four of the featured posts??? Why is it that many others, including a 10 hour-old post with 0 views and 0 comments outrank mine? Next to my blog is one with 72 views and a number of comments??? But why was it also not given a fair deal? SoulCast is highly discriminatory!

I do not care if people read my blogs or not. But when I attract a good number of readers and comments, SC must at least acknowledge the same.

Unless a good explanation is made by SoulCast, I maintain that it has been unfair to me (and perhaps to many others who are similarly situated).

I still haven't figured out how the "featured" posts work. I think it only stays up there for 24hrs, then it fades into oblivion, obscurity.

I don't know about fairness, but I keep the posts up hoping that someone will run across them, read them, and give me feedback on them.

However, since my email notices about my own blogs have stopped coming, I have to check my own blogs now to see if anyone commented on them.

    What's with that SoulCast?

This seems to be a fair complaint. SoulCast must indeed explain why these things happen. I took a look at page four of the featured posts and saw that labyrinth was telling the truth. It is truly unfair for blogs with sufficient views and comments not to inch their way to the top of the leader board. I know that this is not a popularity contest, but it is only fair that blogs with more views and comments should outrank those with less.

I have been wondering the same thing. I might be totally wrong about this, but I think it also has to do with the popularity of the user. The more people subscribe to your blog the higher you get in featured posts.. That's my theory, like I said I might be wrong...
  • labyrinth said on Aug 28, 2006....
But if the popularity of the user is a factor, how can the less popular ones ever get recognized? I am okay with factors like the number of hours of the blog, the number of views, and the number of comments. Using these as standards to measure a blog is fair enough. But to factor in the popularity of the user is precisely what makes it discriminatory!

Even with added views and comments, my "If Pluto..." blog has not moved an inch! It is still buried in page 4! Ridiculous!

hmmm...i haven't given this much thought...
i always accepted the fact that the most popular
ones usually get the front spot...but i do get to
the other pages, because sometimes the more
    interesting entries are there.

maybe this is a call to all bloggers. do check out
the other pages...sometimes, the other blogs for
the day are more interesting than what you see
    on the first page.

SC should have made an explaination to public/members

I think you have a valid point.

I believe silverwhisper ran a post last week asking us if we had suggestions for soulcast on how to determine featured posts.

You might want to look for that...

I am also curious as to why we do not receive emails when our own posts have been read. I am still trying to figure this whole thing out...but enjoying it while doing so.

I think soulcast should explain regarding the criterias on how they choose the ones on features. So as to eliminate the bias among soulcast readers and bloggers.

You have to have a lot of subscribers as well. That is
part of the equation. To get a lot of subscribers, you
have to subscribe to a lot of users. Then the more
comments you get the sooner you get to page one. I
    think.
  • ALIENated said on Aug 28, 2006....
And the comment edit still does not work for me. I was
going to add that if no one reads your posts (subscribes
to you) why put you on page one? It is simple math.

I agree with your assessment--regardless of my popularity. The one thing that helped me was to be creative with my title (think of it as newspaper headlines), ask a thought provoking question, respond to my readers, comment on other posts & network (network, network)!

Well...look at you now dear one... look at you now!!!!

    Good for you! ;)
