Reading through the blogs here at SoulCast, I have noticed that many of us here are not exactly at the peak of our careers, at the pinnacle of our achievements in life.

I think this has to do with what attracted us to SoulCast in the first place. Like myself I think most of us were caught by the SC catchline of 'Make Money Blogging" or something like that, so whether we want to admit it or not, most of us are here for the money! Different baits attract different fishes, as they say, and the bait here is written in $$ signs, so we are all one of a kind really!!

This topic may have been discussed before, unfortunately I am not one of the wise 'ancients' here so I would not know. In any case new members sign up everyday so a re-visit is not entirely out of order.

So just why did you join SoulCast in the first place?

At first since I'm really looking for online job, I was really hooked of making money here in SC. But when I got to know the community of SC, I realized it's not only money, it's having friends and learning.

I don't agree with you. It might be just me, but I see myself at the peak of my career, or close to that. Relax a little bit, this is a fun place to be. Maybe some of us are just experimenting, what's wrong with it?

And no, this is not an easy money. Looking at the number of page views people are getting I bet most of them earn cents or few dollars per month at best. You'll agree it's not a sum to make a living of.

Enjoy the party, while they say curiosity killed the cat, I still see lots of cats around. :)

it's all about money.. just because i want to earn some money.

yes. the first attraction was "make money while blogging" ...
i do agree with you, i am not at the peak of my career. always looking to be better.. i think every young people will always have this feeling right? because the mountain height we are climbing now has no limit, unless we set the limit ourselves. :) .. may be until one day, when we are satisfied with the view that we got we may stop somewhere, but i am sure everyone here is looking to climb higher so that we could a wider and farrer view :)
cheers! everyone, while climbing up do enjoy the view along the path ;) and don't stop while you can still go further.. you won't know what is in front until you reach there :)

Originally, I wanted to share my writing. But unless it it copyright protected, this is not the best place to do so.

So now, I mostly talk or vent (as the case has been lately).

cbrain: Just like you I was attracted with the money making part of SC at first, but as I get to know the people here and taste the difference that this community has over the other blog sites, I began to grow on the realisation that it really isn't all just about money here.

boycie: Of course I do realise that there are also people here who are already successful individuals in their day to day lives. These are the people who joined for reasons other than to make that extra cash. These are exactly the people whom I am most interested to know about, and I am therefore delighted by your response. Ah, 'Curiosity' is indeed a curious reason.

To the rest, I guess the pull of the mighty dollar is just too hard to resist...

Jade, your genuine desire to share a little of yourself to the world is truly a gem the sparkle of which can brighten the gloom of anyone's day. There should be more people like you in the world, then this big blue marble in the sky would be a much better place to live in for all.

One word: money. Then I found out something with AdSense went wrong, so I just continued without the ads.

audience...i realized that blogs here get read...
    unlike my friendster blog...
  • ohtidak said on Aug 28, 2006....
friendster is not quite a good place to share blog.. even your blog address by friendster also hard to remember.

plus you dont get any single cents from adsense ads displayed in your friendster acc.

I go to Craigslist for writing jobs every day (yes, I write too...) and Soulcast just kept asking! I literally cracked under the pressure. I thought it might be fun to make a dollar here or there... without actually doing something, but now that I find that I'm a member, I'm getting addicted to going to other sites and clicking... and copying down urls to buy things.

I wish I could have a blog to promote my literary stuff... I've started a few blogs but haven't found the right one... and Soulcast doesn't seem right for self-promotion, but that's okay as my main aim is to read and here I can chart my progess and since I put the blog together... I feel compelled to write and read...

To be honest at first I didn't wan to join because I thought it was all about the $$. I already have a few websites that make me money so I didn't really need to join for that.

But I like the set up of soulcast. I like the fact that it is more community driven. You can share your thoughts and people get to comment on it. And I like reading about other people's life and fews on things. So the 'community feel' was the main reason really.

The money you can make with it is just a bonus!
  • twistedmelancholy said on Aug 28, 2006....
Yeah, I'd have to agree, it seems that's how most people initially stumble upon the site. However, the closer I look, the more I begin to see a unique sort of community. The site definitely doesn't attract the same sort of people as say, livejournal, or xanga, but...I'm beginning to find more and more people around that are interested in more than just making a few cents here and there. Which is definitely nice.
  • Bluesnake said on Aug 29, 2006....
    It's definitely the money.
But now, it's the joy of writing that keeps me going.

Hitting 2 birds with one stone: 1-adds a few more dollars to adsense.2-I get to blog in a site that feels a bit like being in a forum. It is different from other blogsites.

    Two reasons: money and anonymity.

Money: I am nowhere near the peak of my career, and am trying to make a career of freelance art and perhaps some writing. It's really tough. I see other people with business sense turning their talents into multiple passive income streams, and I thought, "why can't I do that?!?!" So I found out about this place on Craigslist and decided to give it a try.

Anonymity: I have been writing my thoughts online periodically for YEARS, in fact going back to the pre-internet BBS years (in case any of you have ever heard of them!). I tend do hop around from place to place a bit, but I'd like to stop doing that, and find one blogging place to "settle down" in. Perhaps this will be it. I love the fact that it is anonymous; I can't stand the idea of something like MySpace, because I can't picture putting myself out there like that for anyone and everyone to see, photograph and all... since this place is anonymous, I can write my real thoughts (which will probably draw the ire of many) without some need to make myself "presentable" in some way...

I joined partly to see if I could earn any money out of it, cos I am fed up with ads that don't do what they say on the tin. Partly to increase my knowledge of blogging and see what it is all about.
I only started today so will be interested to see what the future holds

I think the catch phrase "earn money while you blog" got me. I also like the name SoulCast. If I can earn money doing something I love than that is what I am all about. But I know that I won't get rich doing this...here anyway.
