today was one of the most memorable day of my life.

i went to a bakery exhibit.

it's the 5th international exhibition on bakery, confectionery and foodservice equipment and supplies.

i went there alone.

i didnt mind being alone everybody is busy. but i wish someone was there with me to share the excitement i felt.

going to the place was a drag. it was held at the next city and i have to ride a bus for more than 2 hours.

when i arrive my stomach ache and i feel like shit. i was like, all this trouble for this?

so i registered and i enter the place...

holy... shit...

the exhibit was wonderful!!!

it was pure heaven for bakers and pastry chefs.

all kinds of pastries and bread was there.

all kinds of equipments and ingredients!

like everything about baking was there!!!

all the tiring shit that i felt was gone. i was smiling!

and the free food!!! ohmygod all the samples were delicious!!!

too bad i didnt have enough money. i want to buy some stuff.

and the cakes!!! holy shit the cakes!!!

and i saw some celebrities there. i saw amy perez. she's like a tv host here in the  philippines. and her show is the one i always watch. it's about business and products. a very educatinal show for a budding enterprenuer. i saw her in the bathroom while and i just look at her and said. " hi, i love your show". she was nice and said thank you. and then i ran outside like a stupid shit... hoy crap!!! i was so embarass i forgot to ask for a picture with her!!!

and then i saw a couple of culinary schools i'm interested in. again... the problem is money... culinary schools are expensive!!!!

and i saw some filipino celebrity chefs! they were having a demo on how to make desserts.

it was a fun day for me.

you know for some time now i'm having doubts about pursuing this kind of career. i mean i can't cook much more bake? and nobody here is really supporting me about my decision. remember my parents want me to be an engineer?

but today when i went there i felt so...

at home...

like i should be doing this...

and i will. i know it may take me long but i will...

here are some pics...

here's one of the bakery featured there. i took the pics because their exhibit was so cool! the walls were made of bread! anyway, ''tinapayan" means bakery.

just reading how excited you are and happy about this, i know you need to be going to this school.  do the schools have any scholarship or student loan programs queenie???  maybe there are some other ways you can get into them now or sooner rather than later?
  • queenparanoia said on Feb 19, 2009....
secretlife: student loan does not exist here.as for scholarships i have been researching for them but still no luck. although i found a government program that's free but the waiting list is so long! so let's just wait and see... ;-) dont worry i'll keep on trying my best... ;-)

I know and have so much faith, you can do this - fulfill your dream, queenie

I hope you will be able to overcome the pain that the seemingly lack of support your family is not showing or giving you.  You know, in the recesses of your heart, that they want the best for you but some people are not capable of being open for their emotions and expressions.  In the end it is a waste of time to wait for them to show what you think will give you the extra push to get it going.

I keep reading in your blogs of how expensive the culinary schools are.  I remember while working part time in college (in the Cultural Center of the Phils. for more than 4 years...) they had this convention called Chefs  On Parade.  I enjoyed it tremendously but yes also noticed that there were only private school students participating in the convention.  What my question is...and I hope you won´t take it the wrong way...have you investigated all schools culinary schools?  I would like it so very much for you to start with your dreams sooner than later.  I don´t want to seem pushy...

I remember thinking when I finally said, I am not going to accept my aunt´s help for my college education (remember I blogged about this? they wanted me to take industrial engineering, or physical therapist) and go for my dream of working in the media with a Bachelor degree in Mass Communication... I was so nervous but got a half-scholarship from a university that I did not in my wildest dream think I will get accepted in.

I am saying go to all the universities you would wish to attend, and not only believe what others say that it is expensive, hard, impossible.  If you go personally, it might even bring encounters you have not dreamed of, you know?

I have such series of these experiences...people telling me, or I reading about how hard to be accepted here or get a foot there...CCP, Pamantasan Ng Maynila (University of the Phils) , ABS-CBN...listing it here...wanting to tell you nothing is impossible...brings back so much moments of doubt, waiting and eventually rejoicing...............

I am so happy to see this post because I see you are taking one step at a time....and writing your positive thoughts...and I don´t want to rush (I know how that affects me too)....I would only like for you to grasp happiness sooner than later....Now, I am getting nervous about posting this comment because I fear misunderstanding, and I am blah blahing....but I hope you feel how much I want you to succeed.

Please, go, ask talk to all people who you think could help you realise your dream.  And even if it does not seem logical go to the schools you want get information even if it would seem a waste of time you might talk to somebody who could give you information you would otherwise not think of or come across.  It is all about putting all your energy and thoughts to your goal.

Again, I am so happy to read this post.  Thank you for bringing us along.

Oh my goodness!  I gained 4 pounds just looking at the pictures!
"...when i went there i felt so at home...".  What a telling statement that is.  That's how you know you are meant to do this, Queenie. Paper's idea of visiting all the schools is a good one...you never know what you'll find out.
Is it possible to get an internship in a local bakery?  You know, work for free while you learn the trade?
  • uniquely-ironic said on Feb 19, 2009....
Oh queenie!!!  This must have been a lot like heaven for you!  I would have enjoyed it and I'm not even a baker type person.  Maybe this is what you needed to help you persevere with your dream.

Queenie, wow, that had to have been neat!  Don't let go of your dreams ... you can do it ... you just gotta do the footwork to get there, even if it takes a while.  Some of those pictures were making me major hungry!  I think I might have to find a snack now.  That's just so neat how people can create works of art out of food like that!  It amazes me truly.  Thanks for sharing!
  • pickersplock said on Feb 19, 2009....
    Great!
    Now I'm hungry!

paper: kapatid, i really appreciate your support and positive attitude. thank you very much! i have asked several school regarding about scholarships and they don't offer it. alam mo naman dito sa pinas. but i'm also considering the some government programs because it's cheaper and free but  a lot of peole are after it and the available slot would be next year. i'm also considering my aunt's offer. you know the one who lives in washington d.c. she said if it's possible for me to get a visa. she'll help me study there. so many possibilities. but i'm keeping positive about this. let's just wait and see... ;-)

twylarants: i tried applying to some bakeries here the problem is it's hard finding work nowadays. but i'll keep my hopes up. you'll never know! ;-)

uniquely: i was praying for a sign and i think this was it... ;-) and oh i know you'll enjoy the exhibit with me! so many food!!!

diabolic: i would love to send you one!!! lol... i know i can do this! i don't expct any support from otehr people now because i'm doing this for me... ;-)

    secretlife: i will!!! ;-)
