Dear Sir or Madam, I regret to inform you that life as you know it will change with the sending of a certain letter. The letter I am informing you of may have reached your mailbox today, however it could also be arriving later in the week. This letter that was mailed to you was also mailed to all sorts of people around the globe sending them information regarding population control. As you should know, the growing population of this planet is obviously a global concern. Resources are running out and cities are becoming more compact. Soon the ecosystem will be destroyed and the lives we've built for ourselves will all be for naught. You should also know that once you open the letter, an odorless, colorless, highly toxic compound will be released into the air. By the time you reach the third paragraph, the toxin will have already infiltrated your system and will commence destroying you from the inside out. This toxin will dissipate leaving not a trace in the air, nor in your body. You will die a quiet death and there will be no mess. The title of the letter will be headed "To Whom This May Concern". Thank you for your time. Sincerely, The Bureau of Emergency Population Control ______________________________________________________________________________ It's late night, early morning. And this just came to me out of nowhere. I know I'm a bit strange at times but who isn't, really?

Is this... good? Bad? Neutral? Or just letting me know you've read it and have no opinion of what my mind can come up with when I'm not really thinking of anything in particular? :)

For one thing, the theme is negative and I am not a big fan of negativity. Did I mention I was an initiated Tantrik? A yogi is a practical man. He may have much knowledge but he does not waste his time in pursuing something which will take him nowhere. The mind is a thought machine. Left to its own devices it will bring the self to places where it will be imprisoned by its own indecisiveness, (having so many options and forks in the road renders him without a decision). One needs to take control of that thought machine and direct it to pursuits that will bring benefit to oneself and to others.

Much of the writing that I do is probably seen as negative... just a thought, I'm not even sure what prompted me to write To Whom This May Concern. I just had the text box ope and began typing and that's what resulted. Without any thought really... hmm... Yes, you did mention that you are an initiated Tantrik. And as for the mind being a thought machine, I shall think on that one.

Just out of curiosity, what is the chemical formula for this compound? Hey, with all these deaths occuring suddenly it's going to through a real monkey wrench into the economy with so many people suddenly not showing up for work and so many people no longer paying taxes or consuming goods. But the government may get some of the money back once they get a hold of the belongings of all the deceased. Most of them will probably not have made a will yet and that leaves their stuff open to government plunder. Sounds like a 1950s short story idea, what you wrote. Kind of like that story where the kid takes a test and his score is too high so he is taken away from his parents to be eliminated from the overly populus society of the future.

If I had more time to recall Chemistry I'm almost sure I could give you a formula. But even if I did, it's not something I'd post :P And what story is it you're speaking of? It sounds interesting.

I can't remember. I read a bunch of short SF stories in high school. There was another about a guy who is driving and has a terrible accident and his mother dies screaming in the backseat. We find out it's just a virtual reality test he is taking to get his driver's license but when he says he would still like the license he fails because no one should feel like driving after experiencing such an accident. The other story I mentioned I saw on TV too. Maybe it was adapted for the Outer Limits or the Twilight Zone.

I liked it. Short and to the point and certainly plays to the fears of people around the globe in this era of far-reaching terrorism and suspicion about government intentions

Hey there, that's an intriguing idea! It definitely could lead somewhere. People have produced bestsellers on less promising ideas, believe me. I'm also writing a work of fiction right now, and it's very rewarding. Keep on writing things even if they pop up at inopportune times (aka, the middle of the night). The letter is very interesting because not only does it kill, but it informs the reader of the dying process as they read. It is unlikely many may even finish the letter before they die. This is what needs fleshing out: why inform the victims of the means, purpose, and people behind the murder? What is the poison made of? Why was it created? Why is population control so desperate to kill the population? What nation is it? These questions might be beyond your desire to pursue the idea, but nevertheless: how you answer those questions could be a heck of a story to millions of people.

Hotaka, now I must go on a quest to find these stories! My interest is piqued. Menageri, thank you :) Lidstrom82, thank you for your compliments and suggestions, I greatly appreciate it. Writing is a hobby of mine. ^__^

I actually like the letter a lot. Maybe they should have the person send it out all chain style before the chemical takes effect. It'd be more like a computer virus that gets forwarded around by gullible people. ok, I'm mean, it's late. I should go to sleep.
