I've seen a very good Spinal Doctor because I've had severe back and left leg pain. Over the past months we have exhausted the "easy" cures and the operation is the last option left. Ordinarily I would be scared to death to go under the knife but with very very high recommendations from my other coworkers who have used my doctors skill with incredible success, I was far more comfortable and relaxed knowing that this Doctor was probably the best in this area. During our last interview, we spoke of what was involved and what my limitations may be. My first question to him was "How soon can I resume sex?" He only looked at me and smiled. We discussed how long I may be out of work and other details about this operation.
I have recently had a back operation. January 21 I went to the local hospital where I underwent a back operation. The doctor fused my 3 bottom discs, added two rods, a horizontal sabilizing rod toward the bottom of the two vertical rods, and six screws. The operation went very very well. The same afternoon I got up from bed by myself and walked around the room two or three times. The next morning the same, up and about two or three times again. While all this was not easy, I knew I had to move, move, move, or my recovery would be slow. The afternoon of the second day of my operation, a delivery person brought in a porta-toilet and a walker. Now that's a fine thing but why did it take so long? The nurse's had me walking the hallways several time during my stay that lasted 3 days before being released to go home. My Doctor visted my each of the days I was in the hospital. He looked at the incision and was pleased as I was also but could only see it when someone used my camera to take a picture of it after the bandage was removed.
Once home, my ability to bend as in to reach to pick items up from low places and floor were impossible. As the next week passed, my flexibility improved and now I can tie my own shoes, dress, etc quite well. I am walking around my neighborhood, using a treadmil, driving my car much more easily now. It seems that my recovery has been very very good.
My follow up meeting with my Doctor 2 weeks after the operation went well also. I felt very good yet still feeling pain, pain not from the pain before the operation but pain from the healing of the incision from the operation. On this meeting with my Doctor, I asked the same question again. "How soon can I resume sex?" This time he replied to let your body be your guide. From this that ment that it will take time before I can "top" my lover so will have to remain passive and be the one laying on bottom. God sex is so so good!
I'm feeling at this moment like I COULD go back to work. While tempting, I think it wise to stay home a little longer and continue more recovery. I do wish to go back to work sooner than planned tho, I do not wish to use sickleave/annual vacation time to waste while I can go back to work and do my job on a limited basis.
