Red Kitchen From HGTV

As my a pot boiled over on my stove for the zillionth time today, I starting dreaming outloud about a red kitchen.  The heat on my electric stove is hard to control.  It was in this house before I was and I've been here ten years.  I use a fingernail file and shine up the connections on the burners to keep it going.

Anyway, if I were in a position to redo things or better yet have a new place, I think this kitchen would be just dandy.  It's colorful and I feel good when I'm surrounded by red.

So today I'm dreaming out loud for a rebellious red kitchen.  This photo is from HGTV.com.  It is about double the size (or more) of my own kitchen.

What color kitchen would you like?

i love the backsplash tiles in that kitchen CW-
i redid my kitchen 2 1/2 yrs ago- put in stainless appliances, a wood floor, new countertops and fixtures.........but we haven't finished the backsplash-  i'm hoping i can pick a cheerful tile out this spring...

my kitchen color is turquoise- and the walls are done with a venetian plaster technique.  i got the idea for that off of HGTV!!!!

That's a lovely looking kitchen!  I like the tile backsplash though I would go more matchy with the colors.  I can see why you'd want that one.

I have a horribly awkward kitchen right now, and the one I'll be moving to won't be much better.  Our stove came with the apartment and I have a love-hate relationship with it.  It's sturdy and reliable but tempermental to use.  It's only got one large burner and the other ones are all but useless unless you're using a small pan.  The dials are labelled from 1 to 7 (one being hottest) and the dial for the oven is labelled from warm to 4.  Figure those are 100s of degrees lol.  So if I want 350 it's 3 and two dots.  Except you have to subtract 25-50 degrees from the given temperature or else it burns.

I have always wanted a pale yellow and sage kitchen (that's yellow and green for you XY types! :p )  I love the sunny, open feel of yellow for a kitchen, plus it adds a little pep to the room which I sometimes need while standing at the sink!  And the green is just a great go-with.  Or actually I could go with green as the main color too.

I want a red living room, somewhere between brick and burgundy, and a navy and white bedroom.  Of course when I actually get there I might decide that's way too weird to have all those colors in the same house!

Hmm...muted green and beige in the bathroom would be nice while I'm at it!  Could do a sort of "secluded beach" theme in there.  Gah, look what you got me started on! :D

    secret,
    I love them too!

Your kitchen sounds beautiful.  I watch HGTV in spurts, but I almost always come away with dreams and/or ideas when I do.

    nytquill,
It sounds like that stove is a mathematical equation.  lol  I grew up in a house with a yellow kitchen.  :-)  I like your idea with the beach theme.  You could incorporate all those colors you mentioned in the theme.  Decorate with sea shells, lighthouses, and things like that.  It could be fun.  :-)

I love that kitchen! Yup...mine is half the size...plus I don't have an island. I painted mine herb green and did green leaf (I think that was the name of the color) for the backsplash. My eat in breakfast area has a wood panelled wainscot that I am debating painting amber.

In the theme of dreaming, my dream house would be built from the ground up. You just gave me an idea for the backplash, cabinets and appliances. I'd also incorporate an island and a sunroom for the eat-in breakfast area.

Will you at some point put a timeline for dreaming out loud?
  • CreativeWoman said on Feb 17, 2009....
    cntlvmenuf,
Your kitchen sounds really pretty.  I'm glad I inspired your dreaming about your own future kitchen.

Do you mean a timeline on my dreams or for the series of posts?  I haven't really thought about setting a limit on either at this point.

It's fun to dream about these kinds of things even if they never come true.

omg! i about fainted thinking that that was a picture of a REAL kitchen!!!! omg. how awesome would it be to cook up some low-carb dishes on that stove???? i'm in a rental apartment, so i have a shit little galley kitchen, it doesn't get much use either...lol. i have not had much desire to dream about a kitchen, but i suppose my dream kitchen would be roomy, because if we're dreaming, i would have a large hunka hunka man in there to help me with the cooking and we'd need space. a big wine rack would be a must.  a center island?  a hidden lazy susan??? oh yes, i love those!!! some appliance garages....ok. i'll stop now :)

CW.......i think we already talked about our dream kitchens months ago..... :-)

My dream kitchen is always the same, anyway.......white and blue ceramic tiles as backsplash of my Viking gas stove with huge grill and fryer and steinless vent hood... ......supercool...

Large terracotta tiles on the floor, a large window with white curtains that overlook a green garden and the sea in the distance...a wooden chopping area close to the stove, wooden planks on the ceiling.
The walls would be painted in off white and Portugal blue, blue the deep double sink surrounded by white travertino, the counter would be a dark blue slant almost grey, an island in the same dark wood of the ceiling planks and polished travertino as top.

Lots of cabinets, some closed with doors and some open to show the collection of blue glasses, blue bowls and blue vases. I like blue, didn't you notice?....lol..
Wine rack naturally. A fridge cellar close to a huge steinless fridge, and a whimsical chandelier hanging over the island. High tech appliances and a french door that would lead to the patio... ....uhmm...detailed enough....lol...

Basically...the complete, total opposite of the kitchen i have now....that its the size of a stamp...an apartment kitchen can still call itself kitchen? i don't think so....:-(

Oh, ,y travertino counter would be just perfect for any "culinary" encounter....lol...

    ginger,
Your dream kitchen sounds lovely. :-)

I do keep dreaming about kitchens.  I spend a lot of time in an inadequate space.  Maybe that is what keeps me thinking about it.  Not to mention, that my memory is slipping and I don't always remember what I am doing this moment let alone a few months back.  Sigh...

Thanks to all for indulging me.

Hmmm, I'm a little late, but the computer wasn't cooperating last night when I was trying to put up a comment.  So, my dream kitchen would have black granite.  I love how it looks when it's clean, and how it just shines.  Then to go with it, I don't know, maybe some ... oh, you just have to look at it.  Here's a picture of what part of my dream kitchen might look like.  I'd have just put it in the comment, but wasn't sure how.  I'd love to have a much larger kitchen, and I think just from the way this looks, that would definitely be bigger.  I'd actually WANT to be in there doing stuff, lol.
  • 007Hardone said on Feb 18, 2009....
I love that kitchen! My taste in color would be for a softer red tho. Having a room in my own home with "bright" colors was good for a short time but wore thin over time. I love you appliances, seeing the glass top stove, my suggestion from my own personal experience is make sure you have good pest control. My left front burner "burned out" before the first year went by. It seems that a bug, cockroach, or whatever got on the inside and "shorted out" the wires that heat the burner. Mine, having the bridge element meant I had to replace whole unit, front burner, bridge element, and rear burner as a unit. Not cheap and out of  warrantee because it was due to poor pest control. I did have excellent pest control but all it takes is one bug and the deal is done. While all this may be to technical for this group, it may make some aware that while the glass top stoves are all very nice and advanced that there are also hidden issues that may arrive once they are in your kitchen. All that said, I do love my new kitchen and while not comparable to this one, has the new appliances and cabinets.

Please, please, please, don't slap me too hard, only trying to be helpful ladies,,,

    Hegemone,
I like the black granite it your photo.  That would make for a very nice kitchen.  :-)

    007,
I hate bugs so I keep them out.  I would never have dreamed a little bug would void a warranty.  That's something good to know.

    CreativeWoman,

I agree with you, I have a black granite top on all my kitchen countertops, I can think of nothing bad to say about them. It looks awsome, easy to clean, durable, and HARD.

I live in Florida and the lifestyle here is far different than the northern part of the US. Of course, the kitchen chat here applies to all parts of the world. As the time goes by, it's so amazing how small it really is.
  • Twylarants said on Feb 18, 2009....
My dream kitchen is light, bright and airy with lots of windows. Very old fashioned and not kitcheny at all.  I don't like cabinets so I'd have a pantry as large as my present kitchen is.  I also love Venetian plaster walls, in a cream or light sandy color.
French doors opening to a large veranda overlooking an infinity pool overlooking a sweeping lawn leading to the beach.
I don't ask for too much, do I?

  • 007Hardone said on Feb 18, 2009....
    Hegemone,

I love your kitchen. We have similar taste, black counter tops, wood cabinets, crown moulding on cabinet tops, stainless steel fronts on appliances, a nice modern look. My kitchen is a "pulman" design, it is a straight line type. cabinets face each other and the work space is like an aisle in the length of the kitchen. While it works, there is nothing like an open type with a center island. Someday,,,, someday,,,,, maybe if I live long enough,,,,,
  • MissMimi said on Feb 18, 2009....
I like the red walls, but what I really like is the idea of a hunka hunka man in residence to do my bidding.  :D  You and I think alike, CDubbayoo.  LOL
  • Hegemone said on Feb 18, 2009....
007 - Shoot, the kitchen I pictured would definitely be my dream kitchen.  An island in the middle, little breakfast nook off to the right.  Right now I've got a tiny kitchen.  Two walls ... one, shorter, wall contains the stove (not the original stove either), with a small bank of counter top, under and over which are cabinets, then that connects to the longer wall with the sink and maybe another four feet of counter and cabinets.  At the end of those cabinets/counter is the refrigerator.  TINY.  There is almost no work space what with all of the appliances and the fact that my dad takes up a foot of the counter space next to the fridge just for all of his random crap.  I'd be in heaven with a large kitchen!
  • CreativeWoman said on Feb 18, 2009....
    007,
I'll bet it's a lot warmer in your Florida kitchen than my Missouri one today.  That north wind is freezing here as we speak.  It is very nice that the topic of kitchens is a universal thing that gathers us in.  :-)  I love your hard counters and the rest of the description of your kitchen too.

    Twyla,
I actually have a set of French doors in my house.  I happen to leave my open because my husband would dearly love to fence me out of the living room so he didn't have to heat or cool it.  CW don't play that.  <snap>

I would love a big walk-in pantry too.  Your dream kitchen sounds divine.  :-)

    Mimi,
I think a hunka hunka man would be just dandy too. I might be lighting the wrong kind of fires in the kitchen though if I had one and I might starve to death.  What a way to go, though!

    Hegemone,
I can relate to a small kitchen too.  It's so small that there is no room for a table and my work space is really non-existent.  Food preparation spills over on to the dining room table quite often here.
