Who has not been in a café with a friend?

Isn´t it a simple luxury to talk to someone dear - over life, love, friendship - with a mug of coffee, a cup of tea, carafe of wine or a bottle of beer?

Isn´t it comforting to watch the setting of the table, serving of food as prelude to bonding?

Paper´s Café. In SC,it is my simple series of blogs to flee to when life becomes overwhelming. It is a state of the mind, and a wish of the heart.

In reality, someday soon, perhaps 10- 20 years from now, I would be able to fulfill a dream. A café bookstore specialising in books about love, friendship and overcoming life. Where friends and family could meet. Where I could bask in the warmth of witnessing people coming together in search of connection to people and thoughts. Where I could offer friendship and comfort even for a moment with a simple smile and an offer of something warm to drink. Where I could hold events that feeds the soul, enrich the mind, and fascinates the eye... *blissful sigh*

In the meantime, all these images remains in my mind, all these longings remains in my heart.

What could I serve you in my café, dear friend? What is your ideal café experience with your good friends? Will you care to share what is on your mind today?

Come in, make yourself comfortable... it is nice to see you again...

...don´t forget to say hi to someone you have not had the chance to.....we are after all a small community... and here is your opportunity to do so :)

Have a wonderful day, where ever you are. And thanks for coming in

    Paper,
I would like a nice mild coffee with lots of creamer and some good conversations with my friends here.

Great post.  (I hope that cafe' of yours becomes a reality.)

    Hello CDub :)

What kind creamer do you take?  I am only familiar with the ones from coffee mate.  I hope you´ll enjoy the video clip of a "coffee-cream artist" :)

Coffee Mate works for me Paper.  :-)  I like the Splenda mocha coffee flavoring too.  I can remain relatively low carb and feel treated that way.

The clip is cute.  Thank you.

    Here you go, uni :)!

How are you feeling?  I hope this (even though virtual!) skinny mochas will pamper you a bit.

What about an exhibit of your photograhy in my future café... that would be so lovely!

This dream of yours sounds so wonderful.  I sure hope it becomes reality for you sooner than you know.  Then maybe some day I could actually come visit you and your friends at your cafe'.  I would just love it.  I'd prefer a nice dark blend a bit strong but not bitter with creamer is all.. and maybe a little biscotti on the side.  :)  Hello friends - I know I have not been around much, but I have been reading ~  hugs to all.
  • pusscat said on Feb 16, 2009....
Oh WOW!  That coffee artist is incredible!  I was quite mesmerised.

I'd like a real strong coffee PAPER. . . eeerrrrmmm. . .Turkish maybe but with the tiniest little drop of cream.  I'll just sit in a quiet corner and maybe 'people-watch' for a while until my SC buddies start to arrive. . .
  • uniquely-ironic said on Feb 16, 2009....
We could work something out for an exhibit I'm sure ;)

Thanks for the coffee.  I swear it's the only thing holding me together today. (caffeine)   I'm better, just tired and having to work.

    Hiya quiet! :)

It would thrill me to have you visit this paper ~ café of my dreams... and I am very focused when it comes to realising dreams... I see us already, sitting on wicker seats, and organising the exhibition of your paintings...would you give me the pleasure of hanging them and displaying your talent for others to enjoy?

Here you go, dear friend... I am glad you came in... make yourself comfy...perhaps Gingery would have time to drop by and tell a story of two about biscottis....

...lemme reach for the creamer jar on CDub´s table and pour you some creamer...tell me when?

Hmmm ... in my state of mind today, maybe just some hazelnut coffee, little bit of sugar and maybe,  just maybe an apple cinnamon toasted bagel.  This post makes me want to get just those things and then sit in one of those nice, cozy looking chairs and quietly, reflectively read a book while I occasionally people watch in between sips, bites and chapters.  Lovely post Paper, very relaxing just to read!  I'd love it if someday you had this cafe ... I might just have to come visit, lol!
  • PAPERBACKWRITER said on Feb 16, 2009....

Oh uni, quiet, CDub... would it not be a blast if you could import all your crafts?

Come and sit together , you too PC  and we could come up with ideas :) it is never too early to plan ahead you know? :D hihihihi

I  love how uni does her packaging :) ... you are very resourceful, dear!  Fred was most satisfied...as I witnessed ....

I would sure save a shelve for your weirdoology (sp) collection maybe do a retrospective of the stories behind them through a series of photographs? We could hang the pictures and have your collection on display :)

I like the photographs of nature & house architechture you did quite ...[put thinking cap on] ... I wonder if you could do quilts inspired by your travels and walks... like quiet quilts ;) huh?

...and I have a model for your crocheted works CDub...my cousin has joined beauty pageants successfully... and do modelling stints for her friends...one is a flight attendant who buys knitted caps in NY and sell them in Europe....

What do you think of my ideas so far, PC?

...all this talk made me hungry...let me cook something savoury in the café kitchen... and will be back  :)

I have something that I've always been really good at too. . . now I haven't done it for quite some time now. . . dont always get the opportunity or the time. . .may be a bit rusty. . . it's nice with others but I can do it on my own too. . .hand sewing (wash your minds out with Dettol ladies lol!)  I was just talking about it today at work how I used to make dolls that had a sleeping face on one side and an awake face the other.  She would wear a night bonnet and her nightgown for bed and then put her flowery daytime bonnet on and pretty dresses.  i was so proud of those dolls but don't have them any more.  I think I may take up sewing again soon now my eyesight problem has been diagnosed (I need a rather expensive prism lense that will have to wait a while)

YEAH! PAper's cafe is back:~) [Husbandhater claps her hands as she reaches for the gold handles on the door. She sniffs the aroma and smells the delish coffee with the scrumptous eats.........]

Paper I see you've done your marvelous usual. And I love your new additions to the place. You have so many options I can't decide. Think I'll climb up on that exquisite green couch with a pillow, and a nice cup of that heart shapped coffee with that delish cake from above. I've been good.

And you? Lot's on my mind. Worried about my job(s). Worried about the economy. But here to relax and hear about others worrys, thoughts, what they want to share. I have a book of poems that would be perfect. Perhaps someone could link them so that it'd be like an open mic night .

  • HollyGoLightly said on Feb 16, 2009....
ohh goodness...this sounds wonderful! I'd love to join you all. I'll have a Chai tea if available. I'd like the lounging couch (you know the one~has only one arm, covered in lush crushed velvet~preferably red or emerald green~), perhaps a worn oriental rug on which to lay my slippers as I snuggle up. Perhaps the backdrop would be indulgent fabrics of exotic nature. Candles of all kinds burning on small tables & mantles, their scents mingling with the overall scent of 'nag champa' incense, (an intense aromatherapy for us all),
some "world" music would be nice, or maybe some Bob Marley, Santana...
Above all, to be surrounded by fun & interesting people, laughter, conversation.
Wouldn't it be lovely to start each day this way?
    You GO Paper!! :)

Oh PAPER - those Japanese dolls are so pretty!  My poor dolly - oh dear - when I moved from my flat 16 years ago when I met hubby, there were 3 large black bags at the end of the day.  One had some clothes in for a friend that didn't fit me anymore and a few toys for her kids that I didn't mind parting with, one was for me to take with me that had all my old teddies and toys and dolls that I couldn't part with ever, including some classics that were my sister's and one was a rubbish bag.  Oh I could cry thinking about it!  I took and left behind the wrong bag!!  I never saw my dear dolly again!

I would be most honoured, when I begin sewing again, to show my works here in your cafe :-)  Thank you for the second Turkish coffee too :-)

AAaaaaah, NICE!!!! Papers Café is open!

It's a dark and rainy night in Hamburg. In a narrow cobblestone street, his warm brown cafe has opened its doors to friends and public.

Pete walks in after a long day, looks around, chooses a comfy lounge chair and sits is bum down.
He looks around, this time to take in all the familiar faces of the people in "Paper's "
    All good friends of Paper.
Oh, Grape is on stage! Playing a great tune!

Here he feels he can be himself after a tiresome day.
Paper is serving great coffee-art but Pete knows what he wants.
    Her Hamburg Cappuccino!
Coffee with a memory of sweet times. Complementary images are projected on the wall opposite of the one who drinks it.

Paper walks over, eying him and swaying her hips a bit more than she usually does.
Pete pretends he doesn't see her yet.
She stops in front of him, putting her little tray behind her back and and switching her weight to her other leg.
She knows his recipe but says: "Good evening Sirrrr??? What will it be?"

He looks up as if disturbed while reading the paper.
Looking in to her angle face, he can hardly keep his face straight.

He puts on his Peter Sellers voice and quotes:

It's been a hard days night,
and IIIIIIII, haf been vorking  like aa dog!
It's been a hard days night??
II should bee, sleeping like aa log!

But when I get home, to youuuu??
I find, the things that you doo?
    Will make me feel,..... Alright!!!

I do this specially when I eat adobo...national dish of the Philippines ;)

    Photobucket

...my all time favourite though is paksiw na pata.....*groaning in memory* ..i repeat, although there are specia asian stores here...it is quiet different eating it in one´s home country...

    Photobucket

...thanks for bringing me back so much good memories, dearest moonie... :_ ) ...lol...have to laugh...I still wonder how to say guten appetit, bon appetit in my own native language or for that matter in English....is it, "Enjoy your meal!" international friends? ....for German friends : Guten appetit! ;  for Dutch friends :  eet smakelijk....and for Filipino friends (I have to settle for what we say, while I was growing up , lol) : Kainan na! Time to eat!

pssst moonie, if you stay a bit or peek in again before or after work, you might see Piet´s son be feautured spontaneously in a concert he saw in Holland 4 months ago ;) ....perhaps Miggy might be amused with it.........yup, there will always be a surprise in this café for friends.......all about paper ~ you´ll hear here first ...promise :D

LOL moonie...yes absolutely right! beef mechado.. : ) .I was not able to find an image of chicken mechado...and I was way too excited over finding a fascinating blogger whose site I lost that I forgot to clarify lol, and linked it as chicken mechado....thank you for your salacious appreciation of the "beef mechado" (soooooooo brain dead from the many sleep deprived nights, i almost typed beef adobo hahaha never ate beef adobo in my life LOL)

...to rectify it..I might post pictures of chicken mechado! as soon as we are back in Holland....

...queenie, wait until I have served all the pending orders above (sowwwy guys...it will come...I am just slow & too much of a perfectionist lol) ...

Desmond has a barrow in the market place
Molly is the singer in a band
Desmond says to Molly, Girl, I like your face
And Molly says this as she takes him by the hand

Ob-la-di, ob-la-da, life goes on bra!
Lala, how the life goes on
Ob-la-di, ob-la-da, life goes on bra!
Lala, how the life goes on.

Desmond takes a trolly to the jeweller's store
Buys a twenty carat golden ring
Takes it back to Molly waiting at the door
And as he gives it to her she begins to sing

Ob-la-di, ob-la-da, life goes on bra!
Lala, how the life goes on
Ob-la-di, ob-la-da, life goes on bra!
Lala, how the life goes on.

In a couple of years they have built
    A home sweet home
With a couple of kids running in the yard
    Of Desmond and Molly Jones.

Happy ever after in the market place
Molly lets the children lend a hand
Desmond stays at home and does his pretty face
And in the evening she's a singer with the band.

Ob-la-di, ob-la-da, life goes on bra!
