No matter where you go in Turkey, you can hear people talking about an outbreak of violence against wildlife... in the markets, on the streets, on TV... the subject never fails to come up. People are constantly saying, "Choke gazelle, choke gazelle." I'm not sure if they're just reporting the news or actually advocating these horrendous attacks, but I say, leave the poor gazelles alone. I mean, what did they ever do to deserve such a grisly end? They're basically peace-loving creatures who never hurt anyone.
As you all know, I'm a vegetarian, because I can't stand the thought of anyone dying just to put meat on my table, but even if you're going to go carnivorous, I think it's much better to just shoot the poor victims in the head and get it over with... minimize the suffering. What kind of a sicko gets his jollies from terrorizing an animal by choking it to death? I mean, I understand that they have long, slender necks that might be kind of tempting, but you don't see people going around choking geese, swans, ostriches or giraffes, do you?
What's that you say? Çok güzel? Aha!
Çok güzel... not Choke gazelle! My mistake.
"
Çok güzel" (pronounced: choke gazelle... more or less), means "very beautiful" in Turkish, or very pretty or very nice. Oh well, it could happen to anyone. Couldn't it?
