Medical Claims Billing Specialist.   Suposedly I can become one in less than a year  for less than $1,000.00.  Suposedly it would give me the opportunity to make up to $70,000 bucks a year.  Starting out, prolly around $30,000 - $40,000, thats still a hell of a lot of money, to me...

The best part, I could do this from home.  I could technically be a stay at home mommy and still have a good income by doing the med claims bill stuff from my own home...

Suposedly I can take all the classes I need and graduate all through the mail, in as little as 4 months, but no more than a year...

Im a cosmetologist, and an accidental business gal...

Im the office manager for my families business, cosmetology has been put on hold indefiinitly.

Its really important to me to be able to have time to devote myself to Remy.

I just hate the idea of having my mom raise him while im working...

Im just confused because, well, im irriplaceable here...

The body shop opened up and soon we will need two secretaries.

One to run the office and the Glass shop and one to run the office at the Body shop.

Right now the body shop is slow enough im able to do both.

The original plan was that my mom would babysit full time for me while im at work.

But now Dad is talking about having mom run the office for the Body shop...

That would mean my babysitter would no longer be able to babysit...

If my mom isnt going to do it, no one else is...

My idea is that mom could be full time office manager at the Glass shop and I could work morning only at the Body shop.  Get all the paper work done and do all the office stuff from mornings to like 1 pm...In theory Remy could be there with me for that time.

My mom used to do it with me.  In the beginning of our business she used to take me to work while she did all the office things...So i dont see why i couldnt...

Then i could take Remy home and do all the housework and do all my stay at home mommy stuff and then i can do the medical claims billing stuff...

Of course,  that situation would be temporary...ideally i would like to get someone else trained to do my job at the body shop so that i could be a full time stay at home mommy...

I dont know, there are soo many holes, i just dont know how its gonna all work out...

On top of all this my mom says, "well what about cosmetology?"

ahhh...I love cosmetology, its fantastic, its what i love, its what im good at...

But now, it just doesnt make sense.

I was supose to be in a big city and open up my own spa and not be married and having a baby....

My life just went in a different direction, now im a country girl whos getting married and starting a family...

Ive never liked business much, but ive got a talent for it.  Nothing gets by me, im a hard ass, and im quick and im smart.  Im really good at the whole business thing...

Its not what id planned but it works, plus, i get to work with my Family everyday...

And now with the baby coming...

Ive always told myself, even before phil and before remy, it has always been my plan to be a stay at home mom, for a while atleast.  I mean ya when the kid gets bigger and in school and stuff its not as big a deal...but ive always been disgusted at the thought of leaving my baby with someone else...

I want to see everything, i want to be completly responsible and i want my kid to know me better than anyone.

I want to stay at home atleast until hes 3...

But a'course,  there is the whole money thing...

If i can figure out a way to do this medical claims billing thing and run the body shop while being a stay at home mom...then it would work out...

I knew a woman who took that medical coding course on the net and she's still a clothing store manager 5 years later.  She just couldn't get her foot in the door of a medical office to use what she'd learned and that stuff changes so quickly that her knowledge became outdated in no time.
The morning/afternoon schedule sounds like a good idea to me.  Remy's not going to care where he is as long as he's with people who love him.

It is a thorny issue with us gals.  I did a little of both.  You'll do what feels right for you.  Try not to put limits on your options and think creatively.

I agree with Uni - now i know that i havent been commenting much.Largely cos i havent really been myself for the last 2 weeks - but i have been reading you.Now i have a different idea for you.How about you do the body shoppe in the morning, and start a cosmotologist bus from home in the afternoons.I mean - advertise your cosmo' services and see what response you get. Then you could book your clients to come and see you at home.Sure you may or may not need some equipment at first - but the money you make from that would keep the house ticking over I am sure - to cover baby bills and so on,and to make up for only working at the body shop for half day. Then Remy would still have Mommy at home too.

I would personally stick with the cosmetology more. A lot of those schools promise you the moon and don't deliver, the main thing they want is for you to sign your name
on the dotted line. you need to check this school out and find out how many complaints are filed against  them, I am sure you will finds many.

you sound similar to me when i had little ones.it is sooo stressful. i can't give you any advice on what you should or should not do because you can only do what's right for your life.  i will tell you that sometimes things just seem to fall in to place and that is the path you should take :)

Star, sounds like the medical billing thing and part time Body Shop manager situation could work best for you.  On the plus side, you'd have the freedom to do what you needed to with Remy.  You'd have plenty of money flowing in on either end and still be there for the moments you don't want to miss.  Maybe just start out with a five year plan to do this or that, then after that re-evaluate.  You don't have to totally give up cosmetology, you could just make some plans for later on.  Who knows, maybe you can save up money and start your own small spa somewhere ... check into the economic details of your area, or areas nearby.  I'd do some research and make a plan, then, at certain milestones, reevaluate.  Good luck either way!

How bout taking the course and then teaching medical billing from home for $500 to other stay-at-home-mom wanna-be's? Seriously, dyingwife was offered a job doing medical billing at home with no training she had to pay for. Smells fishy. How bout day-care? Raise your own kid and someone else's who's making 50 grand?

That was Phils opinion too Twy, I spoke with him about it and he wasnt impressed...

okie dokie oh wise uni : )

Cuppa, my home is not suitable to run a business out off.  Its in the middle of no where and calling it an antique is far too sweet of me...Id love to run a salon out of my home.  Lots of people in my area do do that.  But first i need a home suitable enough...

MsStar, ill be sure and look at that link.  Ive only ever heard good things about it, so im sure it will surprise me.

Alrighty Frags.  Phil would rathr  me work for him at the body shop with the baby.  Seems simple enough, but i just dont know how the baby will be with a 45 hour a weeks job at such a young age....

Hege im definitly into the 5 year plans, trying to work on it now...

Dyingman, a few people have told me that...hmm...

TO ALL:  Thanks guys so much for your input and great ideas, ill be sure to think about them all.  I doubt im goin for the Med Bill Specialist thing,  Phil seems against it.  He said he doesnt want me to be at home while hes at work, hed rather me be working along side him.  Im sure that opinion will change after a few years into the marriage.  I mostly worry about keeping the home up.  Im not one of those women who can come home from a long day of work and start cleaning!  Nuh-huh...Im blessed enough that i will be allowed to take Remy with me everywhere.  He can be in the office, bc its my office...He'll prolly keep me unfocused and it will be hard to get work done.  But he can be there and it will all work out......but the house....I want a clean house....and me working a full time job, ugh, i dont see it being done.  Im a huge procrastinator.  "tomorrow, tomorrow, theres always tomorrow, its only a daaayyy aaaa-waaaaayyy!"

If your looking into a job you can do from home...then look at Medical Transcription. Medical Claims and Billing isn't were it needs to be for working at home. Usually, the only people working from home have been long-time employees of the company.  Medical Transcription on the other hand will allow you to work from home upon graduation. It might take longer to get through school though. Also, pick a school that is specialized in this training, M-Tec is one of the better schools.

cool, thanks vacant, ill be sure and look into that : )

I look at my oldest son who is 5, and wonder what he is thinking about. Just a little sliver of info. would be nice. I wonder if I am doing a good job being a mother to him. Am I being too strict? Am I raising my voice too much? What does he really think...
