If you play Sudoku, then you know how addictive puzzles can be. Ever since my girl introduced it to me, I've been playing Sudoku like mad. I even loaded the game on my phone so I could play anytime.

I showed the game to Hubby and he was hooked, too. But I'm so hooked that I can't pass a blank Sudoku puzzle without solving it. CAN'T. I am absolutely compelled to play it until its completely solved. I can't even let Hubby play Sudoku in my prescence because I will try to play over his shoulder.

It gets worse. Much, much worse. I found a new pastime.

Kakuro.

A Kakuro consists of a playing area of filled and empty cells similar to a crossword puzzle. Some black cells contain a diagonal slash from top left to bottom right with numbers in them, called “the clues”. A number in the top right corner relates to an “across” clue and one in the bottom left a “down” clue.

The object of a Kakuro is to insert digits from 1-9 into the white cells to total the clue associated with it. However no digit can be duplicated in an entry. For example the total 6 you could have 1 & 5, 2 & 4 but not 3 & 3. Sound simple? Be warned it gets hard and is as addictive as Sudoku.

The above description says it pretty well (from here).

This is twice as fun and addictive as Sudoku. I recommend it. BUT you have been warned.

If you have the conojes, then give it a try.

(don't worry, bird brain, the link is a sample of easy level Kakuro)

O I just love Sudoku, only picked it up not too long ago. Got hooked from day one. Then I studied like crazy on how to solve every puzzle possible, not I can solve just about every one I come across. Have started driving the wife and some friends nuts when I introduced the game to them. Everyone's hooked.

I do not know anything about Kakuro though!!

I have played sudoku. Just wanted to keep up with the younger generation I guess. But for me, word games will always win out over number puzzles. First I was a scrabble freak, then literati on Yahoo. My love affair with Sudoku only lasted a week with a book I picked up at the .99 store.
What I'd love to be good at is Chess, but I don't seem to have the strategic mind set that chess requires. Even 13 year olds can whip me at chess. Cries.

I did a series of blog on puzzles numbers and probability in terms of Sudoku and Karkuro (I barely touched the surface, probability wise it is very hard to explain the games without graphics)...
    No one read them :)
I think I mentioned Karkuro and Sudoku in it also...
Even though I did enough game programming in college, when we started "Number Theory" programming, I somehow enever got used used to it...
My first game was 'Hangman' which I started with basic programming in C, but having to add-on in the data file everytime I got bored with the data-set I had, gave me a headache (adding movies, and hints, can be a quite a pain in the neck)...
When I started working I had to shift to db's and then ended my game programming, anyways sudoku does sound fun to program with...
Anyways if I do find the time to create the program, the exe is free from me, to everyone...:)
Anyways if anyone wants to read my puzzle series here are the links...
(I know I am advertising on your blog "happykat", but it might be fun to read add-on about puzzles...)
