This morning, the homeowners’ association of my residential village had its general assembly. As the current President and Chairman of the Board, I presided over the same and gave my year-end report. I reported all the accomplishments with pride. We implemented a lot of projects, perhaps more than any of our predecessors, while at the same time increasing the savings of our village by more than one million pesos.
The audience – my neighbors – consisting mainly of doctors, businessmen, lawyers (including a Supreme Court justice), and architects, among others, were obviously delighted by the report, and expressed their appreciation for a job well done.
I have served the community for two years now. Although I was still eligible for one more term, and although I got the highest number of nominations, I surprised everyone by announcing that I was declining the honor of being nominated. Some tried to have me reconsider my decision, but I politely thanked them for their show of confidence, and explained that I have made up my mind. It’s about time that others do their share.
Since mid-day today, I have become an ordinary member of our community – a plain resident who have done his share to improve the village, one who have fought a good fight, who have finished the course, and who have kept his faith.
My best wishes go to the newly elected officers of the association.
