This morning, the homeowners’ association of my residential village had its general assembly. As the current President and Chairman of the Board, I presided over the same and gave my year-end report. I reported all the accomplishments with pride. We implemented a lot of projects, perhaps more than any of our predecessors, while at the same time increasing the savings of our village by more than one million pesos.

The audience – my neighbors – consisting mainly of doctors, businessmen, lawyers (including a Supreme Court justice), and architects, among others, were obviously delighted by the report, and expressed their appreciation for a job well done.

I have served the community for two years now. Although I was still eligible for one more term, and although I got the highest number of nominations, I surprised everyone by announcing that I was declining the honor of being nominated. Some tried to have me reconsider my decision, but I politely thanked them for their show of confidence, and explained that I have made up my mind. It’s about time that others do their share.

Since mid-day today, I have become an ordinary member of our community – a plain resident who have done his share to improve the village, one who have fought a good fight, who have finished the course, and who have kept his faith.

My best wishes go to the newly elected officers of the association.

This post reveals a whole different side of you. Well job President, I mean uh, quidnunc.

I think it was a good move for you to decline the nomination. It's always nice to go out with a BANG!

    kudos

paid, thank you. as they say, timing is everything. besides, i truly believe that the burden of leading a community should be shared, not monopolized.

I wish Philippine politics have more committed people like you. By declining a nomination to give way to others, you have shown that principles over power is still the best way to achieve true and meaningful progress. The association's lost can probably be the government's gain?

and tired of electing clowns into public office.
