The following are five titles of ads that I saw on the front page of Writingup.com. They all advertise the same thing- lots of money earned by doing nothing.
While I originally clicked on a few of these out of curiosity, they now have the same effect on me as do the Nigerian Bank Account Spam e-mails. Why? None of them work. You only make a six figure income by sitting on your butt if you’re a professional chair tester.
For what reason, then, do people still fall into these traps? Is the power of instant gratification strong enough to move our fingers over to the ads, and click? Why is it that we must be so quick to believe that doing nothing WILL earn you money?
Folks, I’m sure that there are a handful of honest-to-good web sites out there, but in between each is a pile of toe jam that should be avoided at all costs. Take my advice/instinct: if a site asks you for money, you’re not getting any in return.
In the end, these ads will always be here. In a society that puts the words “fast,” “big,” and “now” on pedestals, there were always be claims of amazing work-from-home secrets, or “too good to be true” jobs involving doing almost nothing that fit their claim- literally. It takes a mature and realistic mind to avoid them, though getting caught up in our imagination is not always a bad thing. The internet brings many blessings, and, at times, lies and fraudulent acts. To enjoy your time online, it’s important to correctly distinguish the two. Good luck!
