There is a huge movement by fine jewelry designers to incorporate Champagne into their collections.
Champagne diamonds have been the inspiration for unique pieces of jewelry and objets d’art on display in New York this week.
Several designers were comissioned to create one-of-a-kind pieces using Argyle Diamonds that were exhibited at the Nomad Two Worlds Exhibition, at Donna Karan’s Urban Zen Center in Manhattan. This unique interpretation is a prelude to the launch of 2009 Argyle Champagne Diamond Design competition and an inspiration to all those interested in opening new boundaries in international jewelry design.
The opening event was hosted by Hugh Jackman and his wife, Deborah Lee-Furness, with many celebrities and VIP’s in attendance. The pieces on display all comprise champagne diamonds from the Argyle Mine in the remote East Kimberley region of Western Australia. These pieces have reflected in their designs the rugged and colorful Australian landscape and identity from local indigenous cultures.
Glenn Curtis, designer of the beautiful “Colors of Australia” pen, who crafted his pen from hundreds of intricate champagne diamonds from the Argyle mine, commented that it was one of her most exciting challenges to do justice to the remarkably beautiful and unusual champagne diamonds from Rio Tinto’s Argyle Mine.
The US is the largest market for champagne diamond jewelry which is gaining considerable cachet with not only jewelry designers and retailers from around the world but celebrities and other high profile individuals.
