Once all of the coolant has drained from the radiator, replace the drain plug and remove the radiator cap. Add the contents of the radiator flush solution to the radiator, then fill it to the top with water.
Replace and tighten the radiator cap. Now start the car and let it run until it gets to its operating temperature (the place on the temp gauge that it normally stays at).
Turn your heater on and move the temperature control to the hottest position. Let the car run for 10 minutes with the heater on.
Turn the car off and wait for the engine to cool off. If the radiator cap or metal radiator is hot to the touch, it's still too hot to open.

Troubleshooting the Electrical System: Part 1
Probably one of the most daunting tasks of being a mechanic is trying to troubleshoot an electrical problem. In the old days it was fairly easy, a wire went point A to point B and turned on a light. Today's cars with all the electronics make trouble shooting much more difficult.
In the old days it would take an hour or two to troubleshoot a problem, today it can take four, five or more hours to find a problem. I have always enjoyed a good electrical problem. A lot of being a mechanic is repetitive work, like doing a brake job or tune-ups. Electrical problems require thought and planning and it feels so good when you finally track down that elusive problem.

JA CAMBECE LAW OFFICE:
In some cases your engine may be running fine, and may seem to be cured of its overheating problem except on extended drives or long sits in traffic. If this is the case with your car or truck, check out the following things to look out for and suggestions.
Symptom: Engine overheats. Engine runs fine but gets very hot while driving. This problem usually occurs after moderate to extended periods of driving. You may or may not notice steam coming from the hood or smell coolant.
