How The Scam Works:
1: People call Four Seasons Hauling for a Hauling Job. Steve Mapes screens the calls and only answers or calls back women or elderly people. When they communicate Steve Mapes stirrs them to set a price over the telephone. For example Steve Mapes tells them, "It will be 75 dollars".
2: Steve Mapes and his "co-worker" then travel to the victim's house for the "Job". When Steve makes it to the customers house he makes his co-worker wait in the truck and out of the customer's visibility. Steve then communicates to the customer he will then begin the work.
3: Steve Mapes then returns outside to his truck telling his co-worker that it's time to start the work. Steve mapes and his coworker then complete the hauling job.
4: When the work is done Steve and his worker BOTH go up to the customer to receive payment. the customer says "OK Steve, I'll write you a check for $75". Steve then raises his voice and declares "I told you it would be $75 EACH". The poor customer then replies "You never said the word "EACH". At this time Steve Mapes starts screaming at the customer in a wild temper tantrum declaring "I TOLD YOU $75 EACH!". Because he screens his calls for women and the elderly, that is when the customer just shakes their head and pays him the entire amount.

Pretty Clever Scam the way it works. The scam is based on a forced misunderstanding of one single word. "EACH". When the job is over it is then Steve Mapes's word against the customer's. Because Steve starts throwing a temper tantrum and screaming in their house, the customer just pays him the extorted entire amount to avoid the intimidation. Most women and the elderly will pay when two grown men are standing in their house and one of them is screaming.
You see, most people will just pay knowing $75 is not worth the fuss or the trouble of going to court. Unless you record your phone calls when you set the price, there is no way to prove Steve Mapes said "EACH" when setting a price. That is why this scam is so clever. Being that Four Seasons Hauling screens the calls for people he think are vunerable to this scam, it works nearly every time.
Steve used this scam to rip off a female off duty Lincoln Nebraska Police officer and even she could not stop him. Knowing of the Legal system and red tape, the Female LPD officer just shook her head and wrote the check. Having known this scam worked on an actual Lincoln Nebraska Police Officer that could do nothing about it, Four Seasons Hauling is virtually unstoppable.
The only way to catch Four Season's Hauling of Lincoln Nebraska in this scam would have been to record the phone call. how many people are willing to do this? None. Why? Because they are not expecting to be scammed when they call for hauling service.

1: Steve Mapes of Four Seasons Hauling Screens all his calls. When he gets a call from the elderly he calls them back saying he will take the job.
2: Upon getting to the Hauling Job Steve Mapes finds his victim is a little old lady on her last days of life. The perfect target. The old woman tells him something like "I need all the trash hauled out of the back yard". But, it just so happens there is a "Jet Ski" Watercraft and Trailer in the back yard. Now to most people, a $5000 boat is not "trash" to be hauled away.
3: After Steve loads the truck with the real "trash" he collects the money from the old woman. After collecting the money Steve waits for the old woman to go back inside. When the woman went inside Steve quickly hooks the boat to his trailer hitch and drives away.
4: Steve then went to a friend's house claiming "I just scammed this drunk old B&^%h out of a Jet Ski". The only problem was, one of the guys he was bragging to knew the poor old woman. This man then goes and tells the old woman "Steve Mapes of Four Seasons Hauling Stole your Boat out of the back yard.
5: When the Lincoln Police Department show up to bust Steve for stealing the boat Steve then claims "She told me to remove all the trash from the back yard". The Police then say "Steve, you can't tell us you thought a five thousand dollar boat was trash". Steve then starts screaming in a temper tantrum to the Lincoln Police, "She told me to remove everything from the back yard and that is what I did!". The cops had no choice but to tell Steve "You better take the boat back or it will be grand theft".
6: At this time there was nothing LPD could do as it was the same scam. His word against their's. A verbal misunderstanding.

You see Steve makes his money from the people too scared and intimidated to call the police. They think "If will be more cost in legal bills and red tape to fight it". 1: Elderly Customer tells Steve "I need you to haul an old desk out of the basement to the trash".
2: Steve Mapes goes to haul the desk away and finds important doccuments in the desk. It was the elderly customer's dead husband's Driver's License, Passport, Social Security Card, Ham Radio License, birth certificate and more. Steve then makes sure the woman is not watching and puts all of these sensitive doccuments in a trash bag. Steve then stashes the bag behind the seat in his truck. Steve goes back in and finishes the hauling job.
3: Steve then returns from the hauling job bragging "I have some dead old man's Driver's License, Passport, Social Security Card, Ham Radio License, birth certificate and more. Steve Mapes then claims "I am going to use this dead old man's identity". When Steve was told "you better do the right thing and return her dead husband's papers", Steve replied, "Who cares about that old B*&^c and her dead old husband, I am going to use his identity".
