If you could live in any other city on Earth other than the one you are in now, where would that be and why?

I used to think Honolulu or someplace like that, but I don't like not having more territory around me.....you would have to fly to get away, so that might  not be the place for me......I really do dislike cold weather and it seems the older I get, the more I hate it.

I was talking with a good buddy of mine that is a real estate broker in the phoenix area and I posed this question to him.....I said "Is there someplace in Arizona that is a happy medium between Flagstaff (Where it gets cold) and Phoenix (Where hell begins)?".....he said "yeah....Sedona"

Ever since then, I have wanted to go.....If I had employment there, and the wife felt the same I'd be gone! But, neither condition exists.....and I've never even been there.....so I am forced to dream from my frozen ass existence here in Eastern Washington.

London, most definitely. I've never been, but sometimes that's the place where I feel like I belong.
  • hotaka said on Jan 24, 2009....
There are too many places I would like to live near and so for the reason of scenery alone I can't make one choice. Possible candidates are:
    Christchurch, NZ
    Calgary, AB, Canada
    Sedona sounds nice
Fort William or somewhere near the Scottish Highlands

I have to agree with you on the cold shit, I hate cold weather.  Though I must say it is much colder where you are then I am in Virginia.  I think if I could go anywhere it would be the Bahamas for sure, never been but would love to go.
Anywhere warm and sunny would be nice, I love the thought of living on the beach or it a more rural area then I do now.  Oh the dreams, mmmmmm maybe one day.  Thanks for asking!

Well D, I live in the happiest medium ever, mediun weather in winter here is on average 23 tops during the day 7 in the morning (C) and during summer its tops 34 and low of 27, humidity in summer though is about 90% its easier to breath.  There's plenty of work, proessional too along with a massive building industry plumbers especially are in hot demand... wanna live here?

I wouldn't live anywhere else at this point.
  • FutureGoddess said on Jan 24, 2009....
If I truly had to choose, I would only move 20 minutes away from where I am now.  I would move to Hoboken, NJ - the cutest 1 mile square city right on the Hudson River in NJ overlooking NYC.  Then I would only have to take a quick ferry, path train into NYC but still not live there full time.  I love NYC but I also love being able to get out.

I live in Sydney, Australia which has repeatedly been voted as the world's most beautiful city as well as the best place on earth to live by various travel industries and international organisation that I couldn't cite if you paid me so you'll have to trust me....  So it is not surprising I refuse to budge.  I think it is certainly way up there in all aspects and has much to offer in many, many ways.

Regarded as the gateway to Australia it is both stunningly beautiful and cosmopolitan with anything you could ever want in any lifestyle and set of needs. The city never sleeps and apart from offering whatever you might want it is well placed for whatever this region of the world has to offer as well; from The Great Barrier Reef and the South Pacific Islands to the parched Red Centre of the Outback.  Beaches, mountains, ski-slopes, rain-forests, lakes.... it's all there or nearby.  I am not leaving.

The Aussie Tourist Office may send me that cheque now...... c/o my email.
  • Lucytorial said on Jan 24, 2009....
Hold on Piet I didn't realise you are living in my old home town.... BWAA! how fabulous, I live in well, just north of Port Douglas right on the best part of the great barrier reef, we do all the tourism vids for the area.... man we should both get a cheque huh?

    Hows the heat wave?
  • PieterOpie said on Jan 24, 2009....
But be careful.... Australia has more things that can kill or maim you than any other country in the world and I am not kidding.  We have the deadliest, nastiest, most venomous, ferocious and very hungry creatures both large and small.  It is amazing humans can survive here at all if you check the extremely long list.
But if you are careful you'll live.... probably......   I promise.

I now have to return that cheque.......
  • Lucytorial said on Jan 24, 2009....
ha ha ha haa hold on, there's a snake in the house I have to remove ! (LOL)

You guys get the red belly black snakes and the loverly fury funnel web, we get crocs, bird eating spiders, scorpians, the box jelly fish and the irukanji, millipedes god, the typan snake, the death adder, then there is the paper bark wasp he's such an agressive little thing...the list does go on huh?
  • PieterOpie said on Jan 24, 2009....
Oh yes, that a lovely selection Lucy but far from complete.  I really ought to write them all down somewhere.  There are hundreds of critters......  It comes up often.

But I wouldn't live anywhere else.  Honest!!
  • Lucytorial said on Jan 24, 2009....
Sydney has such a feel to it, really there are so many places you can find your nook.  One thing I love is that it is close to everything, I grew up in th Blue Mountains, sis still lives there, but getting to cabramatta for some beef soup or going to burley heads, down to wisemans ferry or up to the north coast.... Sydney is by far the pretiest city I know.
  • curmudgeon said on Jan 24, 2009....
As long as it's America, I'd be happy. But if I had to pick, I'm very attracted to the idea of living in a remote place like Montana or New Mexico. Florida is likely the place where I put down roots. I love the water.

    Great question!
  • gingersoul said on Jan 24, 2009....
D6.....oh, this is easy ......i wish to come back to live in my country, Italy, specifically in a medieval city called Montalcino where its produced the best red wine ever.....its a very old town, laying lazily on the sweet hills of Tuscany.....yellow country roads that lead you to the sea....close to Florence and Roma....nice weather all year long....turistic and yet secluded.....**sigh**.

Beside that i tend to prefer anything that combine sea, beaches and historical sites.....Lisboa in Portugal is very fascinating to me...Spain is beautiful....I would love to live in Paris and London too....anywhere loaded with history hits my craving....:-)

Cntlvmenuf......Austin is great.....i have been there twice and the night is way too short to visit all those clubs....it has been crowned the city with the biggest numbers of live music places of all America......and it has a very popular university as well...of all Texas is the only city in which i would like to live...but unfortunately i live in Dallas....:-)
  • quietone said on Jan 24, 2009....
I am like hotaka, too many places, so little time.. can I live in one place for a year then move?  Sedona sounds good too or:  Bellingham, WA, Vancouver, BC, Wilmington, NC, Virginia Beach, VA, I don't think I could live on an Island either.. too confined.
  • PieterOpie said on Jan 24, 2009....
Lucy:   Do you mean Burley Heads on the Gold Coast in Queensland?  I went to school near there as a teen.  Not so nice now.  Over-commercialised.  (YECH)
otherwise I don't know another Burley Heads.....

    seattle.
most definitely....if i couldn't live in seattle....then new york or maybe paris.....i'd rather go bigger than smaller.
  • Fallyn said on Jan 24, 2009....
    oops, i forgot why.....
i wish to be surrounded by open minded people who aren't afraid to experiment and aren't afraid of art and alternative lifestyles.
    i get bored easily.
  • PieterOpie said on Jan 24, 2009....
CLEARLY not very many people have been to Sydney or people's answers would all be far more consistently - SYDNEY.

    without doubt.......

People.... this is NOT a competition so please admit it.
  • solarpanel said on Jan 25, 2009....
I think the type of people and interests can be as significant as the place. I agree with Fallyn in terms of a place where minds are open and individual differences are celebrated not frighnening! I have a travel lust so I would have at least 2 cities for different seasons. Set me donw on a beach in the Greek Isles and check on me every 6 months or so to see if I'm ok :) Would love to live atop one of the buildings in NYC with a view of the Park and access to all the cultural events and the means to leave when I feel closed in. I would be happy living on the Severn River in Maryland and sail to the grocery store in Annapolis.
  • D6fer said on Jan 25, 2009....
All of those places sound pretty great to me.....I will refer to this post when planning vacations!

Who am I fooling? My kids are here.....my brothers.....my mom........I doubt that I will end up far from here.
  • quietone said on Jan 25, 2009....
Where you are is just grand D6.  I also love it there!  :)  Near Lake Chelan? I can't remember how to spell it but you know what I mean.
  • D6fer said on Jan 25, 2009....
I am a couple hours south of Lake Chelan.....it definately has it's advantages here....we get some really nice weather minus a few weeks of hotter than hell weather between May and November.....as long as I have my patio, my umberella, and a cold glass of ice tea....then I am in heaven.....fresh fruits and veggies are abundant here.....we are just a couple hours from Seattle.....a half a day to the beach.....a day from Yellowstone.....so plenty of changes of scenery if you got the itch for it...... just get the winter blues a bit.....I get my fill of snow and cold weather after about a week of it!
  • Lucytorial said on Jan 25, 2009....
Bwaa ha haa Burley heads use to be great when I was a lot younger than I am now.

Its raining here D so don't feel too bad, but its still 30 degrees tee he hehee rain is easier to bear when its still warm.

  • hotaka said on Jan 25, 2009....
That's funny, PieterOpie, I always heard Vancouver, BC was the best city in which to live. Hmm... mountains  = skiing, hiking, mountain biking; sea = swimming, boating, fishing, diving. Metropolitan city = ethnic restaurants, shopping... And rain. Lots and lots of rain. And then more after after a short spell of not as much rain. Then finally more rain and the slugs come out. Maybe Sydney is the place to be.

Isn't it spelled Burleigh Heads, by the way? Nice place. Quiet. Not like Surfer's Paradise.
  • Fallyn said on Jan 26, 2009....
    vancouver is pretty awesome.
  • hotaka said on Jan 26, 2009....
Yeah, it's not as bad as I made it sound. I just don't like all the car theft.
  • tizzygirl said on Jan 26, 2009....
I think I like where I live for the most part.  Anywhere with a lot of history...which really would be anywhere huh?  I could deal with really cold or really hot....but mostly I think I'd just like to live in the middle of nowhere with tons of land around me if I had my dream.  Just don't have the green to bring my dream to life *sigh*.   I've been to Sedona by the way, not really my cup o tea.  Good place to visit, never want to live there.  Too snobby and somewhat weird.  Maybe I'm just not classy enough?
  • PieterOpie said on Jan 31, 2009....
TizzyGirl:  A lot of history?  Hmmm.... how about the cradle of civilisation?  That would be... let me see now....  oh yes - modern day Iraq.

uh oh.... did you want it to be in tact and peaceful?

How about not so much history.....?  How about China?  eh... Egypt?
Look, forget all that and come down to Australia and make your own history.

Meh

I'm running out of title ideas today....
Just some thoughts about how very different my life has become in the past year and a half - everything seems smaller somehow.

My family got smaller - no more Armadillo, and in many ways, that changed my entire world ... and then it got bigge...
Accessorizing your house, whether or not you are upgrading or merely starting, is fun to do. This is where you can put your creativeness and imagination to some use....
I am a published photographer!!!! yay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!...
