Today is the inauguration of President Obama.  With it I have a sense of hope for America.  I think that millions of Americans feel it too.  It's evident with the staggering numbers of people heading to Washington D.C. to be a part of history.

Times have been hard economically in America.  My personal view is that a lot of that was because we lost faith.  I'm not talking spiritually, although that could be a part of it.  We lost faith in our leaders.  The Iraq war has been divisive.  Our economy tanked.  I think perception and media bias helped to flush it down the tubes.  Somehow we became scurrying little lemmings all racing toward the edge of a cliff.

The bailouts drive me crazy.  When the media tells me that bankruptcy is not an option for a failing auto industry, I get a little wary.   Excuse me folks, the airlines went through it and people still have jobs and we still fly the friendly skies.

For me it is all about changing times.  Nothing stays the same.  We have to adapt.  If something doesn't work, we have to make adjustments and move on.  As a nation we've been throwing our collective hands in the air and panicking that we won't survive.

Nothing could be farther from the truth.

When President Obama says, "Yes we can!", I believe him.  This nation has faced troubling times throughout history and we've always pulled through.  Sometimes that takes a little sacrifice and elbow grease, but it happens.  It will again.

Today this nation has every reason to be proud.  I have hope for America.  For once, something positive is blanketing the news,  Perhaps now we will have a bit more unity, at least in spirit, to fix our problems.

I hope America rides this positive wave for all it's worth.

    This is very inspirational, CW!

I would come back over and over again to read these words... you wrote about America but it might as well be how one should view life... with hope.

I'm watching the ceremonies and sobbing openly here in my living room.  We've all been around long enough to know that talk is just talk, and we can never tell what will happen after.  Who knows what the future will bring.  But it's good to hear some GOOD talk (and by that I don't necessarily mean "happy").

I accept that I will never really know the challenges faced by President Bush.  As such I can never fully judge him.  But I can say that today, sitting in my living room here in frozen Quebec, I am proud to be an American.  I'm proud of all of us.

As Obama has said...yes, we can.

    O

I didn't drink the Obama juice.

I'm still apprehensive about tomorrow - but indeed feel a sense of relief that Bush is gone.

We were long overdue for hope CW. Wasn't it something to see the millions of people in DC? My grandchildren were amazed by the crowds. Me? I was grinning or crying most of the day. I'll be glad to ride this wave of hope with you.

Though it doesn't affect my life directly I have never liked hoping for someone to fail. Obama was elected in and I sure hope he can make that change work favourably. I'd like to see the U.S. doing well. I'd like to see everyone doing well. If everyone is doing well then there is less reason to fight. I'd like to know that my American neighbours (though I am not in Canada anymore I still think of Americans as neighbours) are happy and putting food on the table for their families. The world still needs a strong U.S. I hope it all gets better from now on. Good luck!
