This is a prediction.
kind of like nostradamus....or um.....psychic friends network.....but WAY less important.  ....or....er.... something.

Have you looked in a fashion magazine lately?
All the girls wearing makeup that makes them look really pale?
Glittery metallics for accents....especially around the eyes.
Usually shot in some dismal dark lit place.
A dark techno club. A fire escape. An alley.
I think I even saw one shot in a hospital corridor recently.
The models hair all done up in some ridiculous frizzed out way that no one would ever wear.....or could ever wear without shellacking it to a tomato frame.....
Their limbs all akimbo in some nonsensical pose that barely makes them look human, let alone desirable or sexy, or well.....any other recognizable way.
Thin and frail. Gaunt cheeked, etc. etc. etc.
It's all been written about before.......how thin models are...... how their images are destroying our girls, etc. etc.
This isn't about that.
This is about art.
an art form.
Yes, fashion photography is an art form.

I just don't think it is one that in it's current form is going to last very long in this new and growing climate of concern and economic hardship. Besides, we've been seeing these images in the fashion rags for years now. *yawn* They're getting boring.
I believe something new and different (at least for current times and standards) is about to come out. A major trend for color.
Not just for summer, but for all seasons.
Not just in clothes, but in the layouts, in the backgrounds, in music and dance and every other way artists express themselves.
Believe it or not difficult economic times are key to the arts survival. Not necessarily to the artists survival (who often go hungry during difficult times), but to the arts themselves. People start to crave it. The more bleak everything looks around you the more color and glamour and everything else along those lines you want in your own lives.

So, I predict a trend. Not only in color in the media, but also in the every day fashions we wear. I think it will make a trend back to black only being worn for funerals. Maybe not completely, we've gotten awfully used to it. But a general trend. A lot of people have wardrobes that consist only of black, I believe that will change.
I also predict a huge swing in fashion photography.....closer to realism, closer to adult childishness, a true childishness, not the childishness you see now tainted by sex and dirt and bitterness. Not because all that will go away, but because the magazines want to make a profit. And fashion magazines are supposed to be fun and an escape. They aren't fun if they look just as bleak and depressing as the world around us.

So, as you pick up your daily, weekly, monthly.....or even yearly (i know some of you out there don't follow the fashion world all that closely) copy of your favorite fashion magazine.....take a look at the layouts they do towards the back, take a look at the perfume ads, and the top tier advertisers and fashion houses, start looking for new names in fashion as people capture this new trend in their natural style., I think we are going to be witness to a change that will be very far reaching in the very near future.

I believe this current economic climate will also affect current standards in body image too...but I'm not as ready to make a statement about that.

feel free to come back to this in a years time and yell at me if I'm wrong.

I like your prediction.. I sure hope you're right!! You know make and me.. havent really gotten to know each other that well yet.. lol.. the other I tried on my mum's lipstick and ended up smearing it around my mouth just like when I was 6!! I wonder if I'll ever learn!! lol..

*grin* god, i do this too.
i had found a makeup eraser pen.....it corrects your mistakes...just erases them....it was REALLY cool.
but then i lost it......and tried to get another one..... and apparently they've discontinued making them.

evidently most people don't make the mistakes with makeup that i do.
cause once you've messed up your lipstick....gotten it further around your lips than you intended to....you can wipe it off all you like......but it's still kinda there......and makes you look like a clown. :P

*laughing* I've made a new commitment to wearing makeup...even just a LITTLE bit. Lipstick and mascara......I feel so much better when I do. Not sure how well I'll stick to this plan but we'll see.

    *laughing* yeah....hookerish eyes aren't a great thing.
