While clearly inspired by the popular XPS M1530, the Studio 15 has a more angular look, with its large side hinges curving the screen down at a sharp angle; the XPS presents a more rounded look. At 6 pounds, it's a bit heavy to tote around every day, but still at the lower end of the 15-inch scale, around 6 pounds.
The 15 outperforms many of its toughest competitors and has the potential to inflict even more damage when upgraded. The only competitor with a richer feature set and just as many upgradable options is the HP Pavilion dv5t, but undercutting Dell's current price will be a monumental task for HP.
In fact, though the materials used are more prudent, the styling of the Studio 15 we're looking at today shares the angular lines and curved edges of its more affluent counterparts. So, though this isn’t an XPS per se, the two share a fair amount of DNA.
It is also capable of playing HD content with ease. It comes with 3 GB 667 MHZ DDR2 RAM in Dual channel mode, upgradable up to a maximum of 4 GB RAM. It is fully capable of running Windows Vista and runs the Aero interface quite fluidly without any lags. The 5400 RPM 250 GB hard drive is quite fast and can be replaced with a high performance 7200 RPM drive for better performance.
Using rebates requires more knowledge than average. One has to be able to judge the value of the rebate purchase compared to a non-rebate purchase to determine if the savings make up for the time required to post and receive a rebate.
Consumers can use these market forces to help them buy a laptop or desktop computer with a minimum memory configuration that they can upgrade the RAM on and still pay less than the original retail system price with the same level of upgraded memory at purchase.
the new line should in theory be the best of the breed with the more upscale design and performance of the XPS but the customization normally reserved for Inspirons.
