That is the subject line in an email I got today.

As I opened it, I figured it was one of those hoax emails.  I get them all the time asking me to be an extra in this movie or that.  (I don't know how I got on such a list.  Go Figure.)  Part of me wished that it was real because someone influential had read my diabetic blog and the crazy train was at the depot to pick me up.  That wasn't to be though.

Instead, I have been noticed for relationship articles I write under a pen name elsewhere. The email says that Dr. Phil wants to do a segment on rocky marriages and why people stay in them. It goes on to say that it would be taped at the Dr. Phil studio and that all my expenses would be paid.  They also promise to keep my identity confidential.

I'm not going to do it.  .  I'm still not convinced it's a legit email anyway.

That gave me the idea for a question...

What would you do if you got asked to be on Dr. Phil?  Would you air your dirty laundry on national tv?

no....and the biggest reason would be that it would be bad for my kids. ...in my opinion.

I would tend to agree with you, Fallyn.

    dr. phil no.
    oprah....maybe...

    biggest loser, ....definitely.

    fraggles,
I have aired a lot here too.  I would never do the Biggest Loser.  I would feel like a loser alright in that spandex some of them wear.

    Fallyn,
I'm not so crazy about Oprah either.  I don't have the courage to fail on the Biggest Loser.

i know i wouldn't fail on biggest loser.

i overcame the challenge of going to the local pool in a swimsuit looking like me......i think i could do about anything else if it would help me.

    Fallyn,
I think I would find it to be a humiliating process.  Weight is a private pain and struggle for me.  To each her own though.

No. I always wonder why people go on shows like that to get "help". It would seem that if you really wanted help, and not publicity, you would find a qualified person that wouldn't use your pain to boost ratings. Perhaps people are just looking for their 15 minutes of fame. And Fallyn, I'm with you. How could you possibly put your children through that? Now CW. If Dr. Phil wanted you to come talk about your Diabetes Blog, or your book about the same. I would say GO for it. I'll be watching!

    woman,
The very few times I've watched Dr. Phil, I didn't like him.  It always kind of seems like somebody gets ambushed.  You are right about the diabetes blog though.  National attention like that would be awesome.  :-)

If they could keep your identity confidential, why not go and talk about some of the issues that are in your mind?  It could be enlightening for someone else at the other end of the screen (viewer), you know?

Though I must say that if you need to talk about some of the issues, I wouldn't talk to Dr. Phil.  I'd rather talk about it with the fine folks here.  :)

But...  A free trip to Chicago?

If I wasn't already living here, I'd make something up!  :D

idk cause if you feel like it would help you then you should do it.. Nothing else should be a factor
  • CreativeWoman said on Jan 16, 2009....
    Grape,
I'm going to pass on it.  I would have to explain the trip.  I don't think it would go over too well.  Like you say, I'll just keep it here.

    callingyou,
I don't really think it would help anything in my case.

Most of my dirty laundry was soiled by myself. I think I could admit my mistakes and show remorse but I would be tempted to explain the circumstances, not to attempt to justify myself but as a warning to others. However, my wife would never tolerate that and my friends would see it as a totally disrespectful thing to do. It's best to keep demons under the skin sometimes and not share them.

That's some very sound thinking in my opinion.

You should forward that email to the DrPhil people with a cover note explaining how it came to you.  It is definitely a hoax.  They do operate that way; by sending unsolicited emails.  They have the means to take action and track down the perpetrators and bang 'em over the head with a huge stick and put them out of action.

Do it because sooner or later they will con somebody and they will get money out of them one way or another.

As for airing your dirty laundry on the real DrPhil...... ARE YOU NUTS???!!!
  • CreativeWoman said on Jan 17, 2009....
    PieterOpie,
I would never do it in a million years.  Like I said, I did consider it could be a hoax of some sort but thought it would be a good topic of discussion for us.
