The Revelations of Jesus Christ 13:18 warns, “This calls for wisdom. Let him who hath undertsanding reckon the number of the beast; for it is a human number. Its number is 666.” Today’s date is June 6, 2006. The sixth day of the sixth month in ’06…does this mean the beast, aka Anti-Christ, is upon us? Will he be born today and send us all into oblivion? Has he already been born and is waiting to wreak havoc on the world sometime before the sun sets this Tuesday? Or, is that what religious fanatics and profit-seeking companies would have you believe? Numerical and literal interpretations, religious theologies, and the remake of the movie, The Omen, are having people wonder what the significance is to the almighty evil trio, 666. The literal value is in regards to each letter of one’s name being valued at a number, and if adding those numbers together equals 666, run for the hills because evil will strike. Floating on the internet are many jokes ‘proving’ that Bill Gates, creator of Microsoft, is in fact a spawn of Satan; his name adds up to 666. Other sure-fire evil doers include Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton, and most troubling of all, Barney the Dinosaur. Numbers found in the Bible are a little more believable. Symbolically, the number 7 is reserved for perfection, and is higly referenced in the good book; examples include the seven days of creation, the seven days of the week, and the twenty sevens of the Book of Revelations. Other numbers also have value. Eight is considered super perfection, as it is one more than 7, but alas, the number 6 is deficient of one and is unable to reach the perfection of 7. Six is often used to symbolize the imperfection of human kind, (one head, one body, two arms and two legs). In keeping with that theory, the Anti-Christ who would be born with the number 666 would have triple the amount of doom bestowed upon him, in religion, politics and social affairs. Still, these theories have their faults. Some suggest that the beast is actually a code for the Roman emperor Nero, and not the Anti-Christ at all. According to the Greek alphabet, the numbers may work, but if using the Hewbrew values, the numbers become 616. While the Revelations are the most doom-spreading of all the verses in the bible, some religious leaders say it isn’t to be taken as a prophecy, but more as the struggle of good vs. evil. It may be more likely that commercialism is taking advantage of those who believe, doubt, or just want to celebrate this unique date in history. Online betting is taking place on whether the apocalypse will happen; so far, the odds are 100,000 to 1 in favor of surviving the spooky date. The remake of The Omen and the state of Michigan are also trying to cash in. On this day in a town 60 miles from Detroit, John Colone, mayor and souvenir shop owner, is anticipating high sales. The town? Hell, Michigan. T-shirts and mugs emblazoned with the evil sixes will be sold, and handed out to visitors will be a letter of authenticity, so they can remember celebrating 666 in Hell. Advertising the date had the mayor calling radio stations and giving away trips to his town, planning live entertainment, costume contests, and the installation of special gates, which when open appear as flames, but close to reveal a devil’s head. Superstitions and unexplainable coincidences are also present. In 1989, when the Reagans moved out of office and into the Bel-Air area of Los Angeles, CA, they had their address changed from 666 St. Cloud Road, to 668. Some pregnant women were scheduling cesarean births to prevent their child from being born on this date. All the numbers on a roulette table add up to six hundred and sixty-six. Those numerical digits are also part of every barcode on groceries. The World Wide Web, when abbreviated and decoded become 666. Biblical references, numerical theories and illogical fear based on superstitions all surround 666. The hell of it is, if there was any established, hard-core proof that either Satan was born or the world was ending, it would probably be too late to do anything about it. This unique date in history will come and go, with maybe a few fun festivities in the spirit of Halloween. The number 666 is just that. A number. Still, let’s not name any newborn boys Damien…just in case.

I read somewhere once about the symbolism behind the number six and that putting three of them together meant "making man god". Of course, that's the Christian view of the number six. Buddha said something about you are your own salvation. I don't know. I read stuff and then forget most of it. Interesting blog entry. Funny in a way instead of serious. Six is just a number anyway.

Wait a minute! Wasn't the Anti-Christ born on June 6th, 1906? Or was it 1806? Maybe it was 1006...

Check this out! In Genesis chapter 6 in the Bible, it talks about "Sons of God" (angels?) coming to Earth to take human wives, and their children were giants. It also says that these giants were the famous ones of ancient lore. Is that to mean that our ancient mythology and ancient religions came from fallen angels who came to earth, were worshipped as gods, and fathered children who evolved into Hercules, Perseus, etc.? In the book of Enoch in the Apocrypha (Catholic-approved books not in the regular Bible), it suggests that the Genesis 6 fallen angels who came to earth taught mankind insane architecture, warfare methods, things of vanity (makeup, etc), to sway people from God. These things brought to mankind made them think of themselves as more important and God as unnecessary, because these fallen angels gave them things so far beyond human technology at the time. This all has to do with the Antichrist because it is the belief of some that the Antichrist is a fallen angel/demon who will come and deceive the world by doing miraculous things and giving us amazingly advanced technologies and showing us signs of his power. People like the Pope, George Bush, Alex Ovechkin, Rasputin, Napoleon, and even Nero, were/are NOT the Antichrist for one reason: they're all small fries. Most of them influenced one country, or the whole world, on a small scale. The book of Revelation says that the Antichrist will basically enslave the world by impressing us first. Not even Dubya has that. He's just the leader of the free world with some mixed up solutions to major problems. 666 is a number to tell Christians of how to avoid the ANtichrist, because worshipping him will be rejecting Christ, and then you're screwed. But now 666 is something superstitious, like a black cat, a broken mirror, and Friday the 13th. They all mean NOTHING unless we believe them to have power. Jehovah's Witnesses have picked about two dozen dates in the past 150 years that were supposed to be Judgment Day, but nothing happened. The point is that we can't predict it; it's just not clear, for a reason. We shouldn't wait to find out, because when Judgment Day DOES come, it will be too late to make our lives right anyways. In effect, anyone who is not prepared to receive Christ as savior before Judgment Day will be caught with their pants down. And they'd most likely be worshipping the Antichrist. From the looks of it, not many people are worshipping George Bush these days :)

I am more worried about where we will be in fifty years. In a way, Judgement Day would be a relief compared to the ecological mess we are creating for our children's children. When nature finally breaks under the strain of our pillaging payback is going to be one heck of a b*tch!

Simply, the answer is NO! It doesn't jibe with the rudimentary doctrines of Jesus or even our own sense of morality. Who can condemn a newborn baby for sin? Who can say Adam condemned us all by sinning? It's a crazy concept!...
