I just finished reading an article that I found a little surprising. A study of stock traders in London were catagorized by whether their ring fingers were longer than their index fingers. Their performance at work was evaluated and surprisingly those with the longer ring fingers did better than those with equal or longer index fingers.
They attribute this at least in part to a hormone that fetuses are exposed to in the womb. Androgen. It tends to result in behaviors of larger risk taking, quicker physical reaction, more persistant research skills, etc. So in reality, if you weren't born with that longer ring finger you can only hope to decrease the gap in earnings through experience.
It doesn't address this same effect on women with ring fingers that are longer, so I have no idea if the same behaviors apply. It does say that math, engineering and other science teachers (male) at the university level tend to have longer index fingers.
Okay, where is this all going? Actually nowhere, but I am curious to find out who here at SC has a longer ring finger.
Here is my hand, and yes it would appear that I have a longer ring finger.
