Last night we went out to dinner with my friend Joni and her family.  She and her husband adopted two kids from Ukraine two years ago.  They are siblings.  We met them for dinner and then went to the movies.  I like Olia to keep a bond with Ukrainian kids because they share the same heritage.  There is definitely a common bond with children adopted from an orphanage; the children are sweeter. We had a lot of fun.  Joni adopted through Ukrainian ANgels.  She told me a story about a woman who just came back from Ukraine empty-handed.  AFter the adoption was complete, the eight year old child decided that she wanted to remain in Ukraine.  The people on that Ukrainian Angels adoption board are blasting the poor woman.  They think that she put herself before the child.  I think they are crazy!  That woman had no choice but to relinquish her parental rights, the child refused to go to the U.S. The woman who owns the Ukrainian Angles group has been blasting the woman who came back without the child.  She kept saying that the woman should have taken the child back to the orphanage and negated the adoption.  Well, hello....it was a Ukrainian Angel facilitator employed by the owner of the UA group, who could have advised the woman with what to do and how to proceed.  The SDA was involved and they told the woman what to do.  It always amazes me how others, who are not and have not been in a situation, have so much criticism of a situation. I had a failed adoption;I know how that woman feels, it is devastating.
We went to see "The Tale of Despereaux."  It was a really cute kid movie.  The four kids laughed and giggled throughout the movie. Olya told us that she had never been to a movie theatre in Ukraine.  Olia had been to a movie theatre when she lived at her orphanage in Ukraine.  I think my daughter;s orphanage had a bit more money than other orphanages,  Each time a child is adopted from an orphanage; the orphanage receives a one thousand dollar donation from the family.  The guardian from Olya's orphanage said there have been very few adoptions from her orphanage.
