CBS
speculates that political ingenue Caroline Kennedy is close to securing an appointment as Hillary Clinton's replacement as New York's representative in the Senate. If she wins this Senate seat, it will  once again demonstrate that among liberals, job qualifications are far less important than name recognition, money and connections. Democratic hypocrites spent months excoriating Sarah Palin for her lack of foreign policy credentials but here they are pumping up a candidate with no more job experience than 24 months as a part-time school fundraiser to represent one of the wealthiest States in America. All because she's a damn Kennedy. Who gives a fuck about her name?

At least disgraced Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich has the decency to nominate a reportedly well-qualified minority named Roland Burris to replace soon to be President Barrack Obama in the Senate. There seems to be little debate that Burris is up to the job. As a disabled African American, New York Governor Patterson could follow suit and appoint a well-qualified minority to the Senate. Clinton's seat already seems reserved for a woman - why not a well-qualified African-American, Hispanic or Asian woman? Why does Patterson have to select some completely unqualified Fifth Avenue dilettante who has done so precious little for the people of New York her entire cushy career? What complete bullshit!

Why is it that in one of the most liberal States in the Nation - where egalitarianism is touted as the ideal to which we we should aspire in economic and social policy - we can do no better than perpetuate the most corrput and disgusting form of nepotism - that of political family dynasty? And liberals would have us believe that they actually care about the poor! How about giving a poor person a chance to represent us then? Why hand this job over to someone who STILL has the silver spoon in her mouth???

If Caroline Kennedy thinks she can serve New York in the Senate, let her run in two years. Until then, there must be people who have far more job experience - especially in dedicated service to our State - who deserve to be given the chance.

But then again, we are talking about a governor who himself was selected, not elected. Appointing Kennedy would secure him funding and support for his own re-election bid.

This whole sordid affair reaffirms my belief that liberal northeastern Democrats are the dirtiest hypocrites, liars and thieves on the face of the Earth.

    liberals are not liberals

and, as we have seen, conservatives are far from conservative

I do not think C Kennedy should get the position either, but, fund raising is more important than ones politics. Obama showed everyone that money speaks louder than ANYTHING...probably why Americans are waking up and realizing they created a soulless Police State! Got Power? Only if you support your supporters with some well placed cash. This is why Ted Stevens got a full minute standing ovation curmudgeon, because Republicans and Democrats are lying cheating hyppocrites. Polarization stinks no matter how you slice it!

I hold a rosier view of this country than it being a "soulless police state." You're right in some regards, but I've traveled around the country enough to realize that there are some really great things about this nation, and what it can be.

On specific republicans and democrats being hypocrites and liars - I'd have to agree.

yesss, my friend, even i have feelings of love for my country, and I have dedicated myself to identifying the ways in which we are falling short of our ideals. and, I understand the Human Condition way too much to believe that what we 'Stand For' and what we actually 'Do' are in alignment. I do believe we will evolve toward our goals tho, that is if, the current Earthchanges don't submerge the heartland.

Also, the advent of eyes everywhere will ensure that we stay on course. And, i was buoyed by Obama's speech yesterday when he stated that "The US does not torture!" (anylonger).

It is a conundrum for the Secret Service (in their job to protect dick and W if they should travel abroad) because people from around the world would like to apprehend them for the Hague war crimes tribunal - which is why the Bush admin rejected a world court in the beginning of their admin. Just like Pinochet from Chile, they will get nabbed and taken to the Hague if they get out of the US. got a disguise? justice will reign in the end :]

Hmm - I wouldn't bet that either will be arrested any time soon. The Hague would have to collect evidence, and none of our intelligence agencies would give any of it up, even with an executive order. Who's to say they wouldn't be next up for prosecution?

Moreover, if Obama were to let that happen, whose to say someone wouldn't press charges against him someday? Obama will make decisions that cost people their lives. Count on it. If the Dems try to hang Bush, the Republicans will do the same to Obama, Clinton and any other Dem who even smells like he crossed the line.

No, Bush and Cheney will retire and travel the world once their legacy is buried by Obama's deeds, good and bad.

actually, Obama will be violating a treaty that Reagan signed with the UN if he does not prosecute war crimes.

no one needs evidence from the intelligence agencies bc dick admitted torture on television and there are already 100's of thousands of documents available in Congress now that condemn these unAmerican leaders you so blithely defend. why would you protect criminals? It is not a republican or a democrat partisan issue curmudgeon, it is a humanity issue and we, as a Nation amongst other nations must live up to our own agreements. in this case, it was an agreement made by a very lionized republican who - was himself - a criminal. "I can't recall" is not an adequate defense these days. Gonzo will find this out soon enough!

In your dreams. If any prosecution moves forward, Democrats will be opening themselves up for prosecution for every little indiscretion they've committed. For example - the Chinese could press charges against Bill Clinton for bombing their embassy in the 1990s. Last I heard, there's no statute of limitations on homicide.

And you're right - it's not a democrat or republican thing - it's about protecting the structure and activity of the government. If Presidents are subject to prosecution they won't be able to take action on a whole host of issues because the decisions they make cost people their lives.

If we're to prosecute Bush for his crimes, how about Obama for unilaterally sending missiles into Pakistan on his third day in office? Those missiles reportedly killed twenty untried, unaccused people including children. Where's the protest from the pacifist anti-Bush crowd? Where's Pelosi with her subpoenas? Guess what - protest is non-existent because Bush-haters have made human rights a partisan issue. They're fully willing to ignore the murderous terrorism committed by the candidate they supported while excoriating Bush for enacting the very "terrorist" policy Obama supported and now continues.

i agree with you curmudgeon about the unmanned drones - i thought that would be one of the first things Obama stopped when he came into office. THIS MUST STOP - i find it to be absolutely unAmerican and fiendish!

and...pre-emptive wars are not worth defending for any reason
