I answered a question on Yahoo answers. The guy was 30 something and had qualifications in IT and stuff. I thought he should stick to that and maybe start his own business - but when I do Answers; I like to entertain and so after giving a serious answer on going self - employed and escaping the slavery of what we call employment. I suggested he could always retrain to be a plumber. There is a shortage of plumbers in the Western world apparently and it's now spreading to other trades like electricians, joiners and artisans in general. I start my blog today on that subject because when I came on to this site all the adsense adverts were for plumbers.
Since my last blog, that's sounds like "since my last confession!". I've had a cold, the same one I had last time. It got worse. The school holidays are nearly to an end. I went out for a drive this afternoon. It's different during school holidays - you can go out whenever you want and don't have to dodge the school runs. The one to school, that lasts over an hour becuase some parents go early to get parking. Then the lunchtime run and finally the afternoon runs when parents go to the school often 45 minutes early to get parking and then pick up the kids from Nursery at 3pm, the juniors at 3.30pm and the High School around 4 to 4:30. Then of course it's the rush hour. Madness, really. they drive bif 3 or 4 litre 4 wheel drive "Chelsea Tractors". They run over a child in one of those and the kid has no chance and then they petition for traffic calming measures. After all the speed humps have been installed you need a "Chelsea tractor" to drive around here. I have 6 infant and junior schools within a mile of my home....
I've been campaigning again for Human Rights. I have this idea that the European Parliament should appointment a High Commisioner for Human Rights and he should have a commission and investigators and be able to take the government of any member state to court if they are in breach of the European Convention on Human Rights or the Acts of parliament like our Human Rights Act that ratified the convention. Ordinary people don't have the resources or prestige to take on the government - so we need someone with some cloat and muscle. Anyway, I shall blog about it here, there and everywhere and email anyone I think will listen....
I had a call from my credit card company. I had all my finances planned until the end of the year - the financial year that's April in the UK. People keep messing up the plan. I answered a question about that on yahoo answers too. I said make a plan and when it doesn't work, revise it. It's called evolution and has worked for nature for millions of years. Anyway, someone tried using my credit card for gambling and my bank refused payment and called me. I bought some software and the payment went through an American company. They are chief suspects if it was attempted fraud. It could have been just a mis-key, I do it all the time! Anyway, a new card. Worse, a new PIN number to remember. I had a great pin number. I just had to remember how old my great niece is and then work out the year she was born - and it was the last two digits - twice. I suppose I could tell you my pin number now - the card has been destroyed. But if I did I'd probably get the same one again! I usually pay my car insurance in September with my credit card - it's due on the same date as my credit card bill. So that gives me until the end of November to actually pay it. I can pay it with my debit card, but that will mean all my financial forecasts will be wrong again. I'll evolve a new strategy!
On the subject of money. I've had a company recommended to me that does web space. I really need to go on a cpurse and learn how to do a proper web site. Although, my website is better than some professional ones I've seen. It's not as boring and I didn't use an out of the box style template. but it's only 15 Mb. I'd like a few gigabyte. I want sub-domains. I was going to have England4U.com that has gone. But if I had that, my niece could have the sub-domain www.Charlie.England4U.com. Her name is actually Charlotte, but we call her Charlie and she did a web in about an hour - without much help. Kids have just been brought up to it at school. I showed her some basics and she went home downloaded a program - and did one. But needs some space for it. Charlie is 10 years old, so she could probably do something for kids and make a fortune from advertising that will be a little pocket money while she is at High school and it would be better than working as a waitress when she is at university. People keep telling me that advertisements are ignored and there is no money in it. Tell that to Google - their stock price is the highest on the market. Tell it to news International - they bought Myspace for over $500,000,000 and it wasn't to throw a party for the beautiful kids of California! It was to advertise, ringtones, premium rate telephone numbers and fizzy drinks at inflated prices. Back to my webspace. I could also let my friends have space too and use some for a web ring to link everyone up in to a community and maybe a chatroom. A forum to exchange ideas would be great too - but complicated to do. I thought a competition and a premium rate number for the suckers to ring would be a good idea too. Someone in a movie once said, never give a sucker an even break.
My nephew started a business doing handyman services. He escaped the slavery we call employment. if he keeps decent accounts - he may escape the nightmare of the tax man. The Inland revenue in the UK are OK in my experience and will often help with tax returns. As long as you don't mess them about and cause them loads of work. Anyway, the handyman service started off well - booked up for weeks and working weekends and long hours. Then it went quiet - maybe people going on holiday? But it appears to be picking up again....
I have to do more research into the workings of the European parliament and Commission in the next week or two. I'm sure they are good for something with the right approach. They give grants out for all sorts of things to the French and Italians. They seem to like to fund fairly useless things like ART. I have my virtual art galleries. I wonder if I could get a grant to develop them. the national Lottery fund gives grants for the arts too! An artist got a commission to do something artist and he did a crossword puzzle! I sent them a jigsaw puzzle and told them when they finish the puzzle to display the picture in their very own virtual art gallery and even gave them the link to download one. Then I got lawyers to shut down their website! lol
That time again. yes, you got it have to cook my own dinner. Lots of good things about being single. You spend your money on useful stuff like computers and cars. Ok, I did buy a carpet a couple of months ago. You do stuff, more or less when you feel like it. But no support - then again no nagging. Swings and roundabouts......
