There is a commercial that's receiving a lot of play, that I absolutely cannot watch.  When I hear the music, I have to look away or change the channel.  It's for the ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals), and it breaks my heart.

There are few things in life that enrage me more than abuse of children or animals.  Those who abuse the helpless who have no voice, have no soul, in my opinion.

This probably isn't the most uplifting topic for a post, but that commercial just played again, so there you go.

This is the link for the commercial, but I find it difficult to watch.

I hope you don't mind meems but I didn't go to the link.  We have an advert by the UK equivelant, RSPCA (Royal Society for the Protection of Cruelty to Animals).  It is haunting and completely unforgettable.  What I will never understand is, if you can't be bothered to look after or feed your dog or cat, why not just dump it on the doorstep of the RSPCA?  Why keep it and actually watch it suffer?  What I could do to those people . . . .

We recently had a case here whereby several horses had just been left to slowly starve to death, laying weakly in their own faeces and slowly dying an agonising death.  The bodies of the dead horses and little ponies were just left in the same barn as the other living ones.  When you saw the people going into court they were 2 well-to-do looking women and a man.  People that actually had the money to look after these beautiful, trusting, innocent animals!  God I hope they throw the book at them.

Trust me, pcee, I understand not wanting to watch it.  I agree completely.  It takes a very cold heart to sit by and watch an animal suffer and do nothing.  There is a cable network here called Animal Planet, and the programs about neglected and abused animals would break your heart.

BTW, Happy New Year to you and yours, pcee!

Thanks for posting that, D6.  No, I'm far from a fanatic.  The ASPCA psa just touches a soft spot in my heart.

The RSPCA are ding it here too, its a world wide ad campaign to try stop animal cruelty.  Recently they fined then jailed two people here for animal cruelty $80k to pay and time in prison.

    Hope it works.

It says allot about a person, how he treats with those who have no power over him.

Thanks Mimi, I've seen this before too.

I 100% understand how hard it is to watch that commercial.  I tear up and cry every time I see it.  I'm an ASPCA supporter through and through.  I also support my local Humane Society and volunteer anytime I can.  It enrages me to no end to see people abuse their animals whether it be in a large obvious way, or small unseen ways.  I'm not going to get into a big long schpiel about it ... although I could ... but for the people who see it fit to be able to do that to an animal or to anybody for that matter ... they deserve the most misery, poor health and sadness that any human being could fathom.

yes, I have seen it many times myself. I have also heard that same song played on a commercial for the children of a 3rd world country... I think save the children foundation or something.

mimi- Those faces are difficult to look at. Like others here, we've supported our local humane society for a very long time.

me too MMM.  I have to turn it off or walk out of the room.  Otherwise I'd end up adopting dozens or possibly hundreds of pets.

I wrote a long comment (for me) and poster it only to see it vanish! I am too darn lazy to write the whole thing over again, so I will just say that the way SOME people trat their pets and domestic animal, even wild animals is sickening! Save the children foundation, thats another matter! How much food did we throw away this "festive season."? How much do we waste in organized food fights? What about the  competitions  where people are encouraged to stuff their face with as many hotdogs or whatever that they can force down their throat? The amount of aid we give third world countries is pathetic. We spend ten thousand times that amound attacking people we see as a threat! And how many billions on producing the means to do that??? I know a lot won't like this but the truth is sometimes like a slap in the face with a wet fish! hey, it is still the truth!!!!! As an old friend of mine liked to say..."face the facts!" I have friends in Zambia (in Africa) they are educated and well off but beleive me, if you had to live for a week the way most people there have to live their whole life, you would DIE!!!

Sorry missMimi, I hope my comment does not generate spite and ruin your good post. Lets hope the new year brings better things.

my grandma and i watch a lot of the "heroes" shows on animal planet.
this ad plays a lot during those.

the only time we don't watch the shows is when the kids are over.....the shows get to be too much for their little hearts.

As you may or may not know - my animals are my life.I have a black and white cat who i am convinced is employed with the chinese mafia but i love him to bits.I also have 2 alsation Huskies  - a father and son pair - who are most entertaining to watch at the best of times and some of the most intelligent animals i have seen
Early last year a teenager over here decided that to stop the neighbours husky puppy from barking too much,he got hold of a chiansaw and beheaded the animal. He was caught and went to court - didnt get jail time - but got a large fine instead.
Literally 3 months later he was killed in a car accident and he himself was beheaded.
Justiice is served? I think so

    Mimi,
How anyone could hurt the sweet animals that give us unconditional love is beyond me.  I can't watch those commercials either.

Sick, Sick, Sick....
I feel so completely empty. I've been so depressed lately that I can't seem to remember when I became this way. What happened to me? I can't be happy anymore. I can't bring myself to do any of the things I used to like. All I want to do is sit around and...
and thats verrrry naughty of me....
What is the cure for a loss of appetite? Recently, I cannot seem to eat much food, nor do I have the desire to eat. I am not sure why exactly, but I have experienced this in the past and have no idea how I got back to eating....
I had to buy another pack of cigarettes this morning, not really knowing why I did because just recently I was praying so hard to God to help me quit…and I did-for about 3 moths....
