I read a quotation today, and I'm trying to find out who it's from- I'll post the name in the comments section when I find out. Here it is:

"Our self-image and our habits go together. Change one and you change the other."

This sounds like it should be true. If we perceive ourselves as being one way or another, it makes sense that we would behave in that way. Am I a shy, procrastinating weenie because I see myself as one? If I am, that means I should be able to change that about myself, right?

Now, the question is: How do I change my self-image? How do I start to see myself as the outgoing, friendly, successful, getting-out-there-and-promoting-my-business person I want to be? I know there's got to be a better word for that last one...

How would you do it? Has anyone tried this before to overcome some personality flaw or bad habit? Do I write out statements like "I am outgoing!" and read them over and over? Do I have to talk to my reflection in the mirror? Do I change my name to DoesItNow SuccessChick? Please let me know, and tell me how it has worked out for you!

I actually took a course on this provided through my employer. We read a lot of great books that were short and to the point. (Which was nice for me because I don't have time for 200 pages.) But it worked for me. I will add a new comment tomorrow with the names of some of them. They were cheap, only a few dollars each.

I have been feeling the same way recently. I live too much for the moment, meaning I do whatever I feel like doing and not what I should be doing. I have written a couple of blogs about my minimal success and I blame myself (and also bad timing). I have decided from September 1st to give my self 100 days to achieve everything I planned to do this year. That means better time management and getting off my ass. I also need to make sure that I make time for wasting too, just so I can get it out of my system and relax.

I think it's not about repeating mantras. It's about taking action. Make a plan and go for it. And don't get addicted to SoulCast. It takes a lot of promoting-business time.

Small minded individual - also small of stature ... we work together. He is the one who could have helped me renew my grant for the public health clinic but declined because "it was not worth the effort." Needless to say, I am harboring some resentment...
