“In the beginning there was the Word, and the word was with God, and the Word was God.”  That is from John 1:1and it was the Gospel for Christmas day in our Episcopal Calendar.  The reason this stuck me so was the Vicar’s sermon on this verse.  If I didn’t know any better I would sat that she had been reading my blog, but I know better.  Her sermon was inspiring.

Imagine something if you will: a force so powerful that it spoke the universe into existence.  It was the beginning of time and space  as we understand them.  So powerful that everything that we know or will ever know was created in less time than it takes to think a single thought.  Some say it took billions of years for this to occur and that may be true, however; if you take a larger view you know that everything there is now came from what was then.

I ask you to imagine because I think God gave us and imagination so that we could be closer to God and God’s creation.  That, however; is my belief you may have a different one and that’s beautiful.  If we don’t allow out minds to wander into the realm of the mystical from time to time I believe we will miss big parts of the puzzle that has been left for us to solve.  Right now at this moment science can’t explain all that we would like it to, but with a little imagination, and inspiration coupled with a theory leading to a hypothesis and maybe a proof that can change.  Science is beautiful, but without faith it is nothing.

As Humans we have faith in out abilities to get things done; to figure them out and find solutions to all out problems.  As we are now seeing with our own eyes the solutions are not always easy, even when our very existence on the planet depends on them; they require great sacrifices and only the future knows if we will make them.

I know I’m not telling you anything new or profound, but sometimes it’s good to take a look at  the way our ancestors saw the world. I find that when I do I come understand just how much they knew about the universe and where we come from.  The writing is mystical, but the science is inescapable: there was nothing and then there was something (that’s a simple observation, part of the scientific method).  How did it happen?  Well First there was the Word.  Peace and Long Life.

That, my friend, is not "the way our ancestors saw the world." You would better serve your readers, and yourself, by actually doing some research instead of reciting some religious pablum.

Hey Kelly, Merry Chrismas to you as well, and yes, I do remember your views.

As to the other comment I don't know who you are and I'm not going to debate what our ancestors knew and what they didn't, but I know more about history than you would believe.

I would like to know one thing though, what particular history are you talkinhg about?     Peace and Long :Life

    To All,

Please keep in mind that I don't ask anyone to agree with me or see things my way.  Unlike some I try to learn something new everyday.  This is my view of the world as it was and as it is.  If you don't see it that way, that's fine.  See things the way you want.  I don't know what our ancestors knew, I only know what they wrote.  We are left to interpret, guess if you will what they meant.  The meaning of wordds change and translations a biased by the translator.  So your interpretation of the fact such as they are may be different.  That's my disclaimer.  Peace and long Life

LCW: I read an investigation years ago on the authorship of the bible and the errors that have come down from it's many scribes. There were more mistakes by the scribes then there are words. Seems there were three authors, if I remember correctly. And Constantine the Great, of Sol Invictus ("Unconquered Sun") fame, was a primary force force in it's distribution and survival. There are some who seem to think it was actually written by/for the Roman Emperor Titus.

You see, the bible has always been a political document. And politic and religion do not mix well. Please delete my first comment if it offends you.

    GnawingDog,

My friend I do not dispuute what you read, however; it is my belief that you may be missing a bigger picture.  Constantine for all he did was not the beginning or the end of Christianity..  There were Christians in Africa long before  Europe.  If you ever get a chance you might like to read a Coptic Bible.

you seem like decent sort of person, so I ask to read what I've written again and see what it is i'm sayig to anyone who reads the post.  It's not so much about history as it is about the state of humanity.  This is not to say that history is not important, it is but realize that I interpret one historical document, in its Context, to try and speak to something spiritual.

this discourse with you has taught me something.  "You can please some of the people some of the time and all of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time.  You have taught me that someone can always find fault with something you say or write.

Finally, I don't delete or block anyone; it's not my style.  If you read some of my earlier works you will see some truely egregious comments left by those with a serious bone to pick not only with me, but with society in general.  Reading comments like those can be humbling.  I believe that everyone needs to be thrown a curve every now and then.  I wish for you a Happy Holiday Season, and Glad Tidings.  Peace and Long Life
