I think I could live off of soup.  It's one of favorite dishes all year round.  After the holidays I always find I turn to soup to help un-tilt the scales.  So, I was wondering...

Do you have a favorite soup?

I love so many, but I think I can narrow it down to three.

Chili
Oyster Stew
Beef and Noodles

Care to share yours?

Oooh, chili counts?? Put a good hearty chili up there with my top three then, and potato soup, and...hmm...beef stew. I like thick/hearty soups. :-D

fish chowder made with haddock (a.k.a. potato chowder because the fish becomes an out-gredient when I make it for DH)

my dad's chili or my approximation thereof

my own chicken soup recipe (with carrots, onions, and lentils instead of noodles)

When I'm sick I always turn to Lipton chicken noodle soup, the kind that comes in a paper pouch?  It's really just noodles and broth but it's so great for a stuffy head or an upset stomach.

Plain old tomato soup from a can for comfort soup.

Oh yeah and that onion soup you get at some Japanese restaurants.  Or won-ton soup/egg drop soup, but really I like the broth best!

Oh I could live on soup too and it is the only thing that I can cook without relying on a recipe or ruining it! Pea and ham is one of my favourites to cook and eat. I cant imagine eating it today though, it is so hot!! :0)

    Hiya, CDub!

I like New England clam chowder, chicken noodle from a can (you know.. the red and white can), and tomato soup.

But my favorite is French onion soup.  Mmmmm.  With a crusty piece of bread and cheese melted on top.  Yumyum.

    I
love that soup. I make it all the time, it's delicious and I lose weight on it without even trying. It's a great way to sneak in greens for those fussy eaters.

I like vegetable beef and potato leek with cheese soup. My mom makes the best versions of both of these soups! I also love Italian Wedding soup too. I never thought of chili as a soup, but that's always a good one. And if I'm sick I have to have to Campbell's chicken noodle soup.

    O

When it comes to soups, I'm an inventor. I've made some really great ones that I will never be able to duplicate. I don't even have names for them. Sometimes I go too far and add too many ingredients. But I get better and better as time goes on. Especially in winter, soup rocks. Make a ton and use it all week. Mmmm mmm good.

There's a soup I get here made by Pacific Foods ... Roasted Red Pepper and Tomato soup

  • beyondtheveil said on Dec 29, 2008....
I'm with platoon on this one. I make a lot of soup and have never made one the same way twice. Its endless what you can put together and have great soups. The only soup I've eaten that I really didn't like is tomato, and I love tomatoes. When it becomes a soup I just can't eat tomato soup.

Home made basil and tomato soup with hot buttered crusty rolls
Mmmm, yum... damn, now i'm hungry

  • CreativeWoman said on Dec 29, 2008....
Mmmmmm.  All the different soups your guys listed are making me hungry!

I guess I call chili a soup because I eat it out of a bowl.  lol

I create my own soups too.  Over the weekend, I made a soup out of left over spiral ham, french cut green beans and potatoes.  It was really good.

Thank you all for sharing your favorite soups with me!  I'll definitely be trying the ones I haven't had before.

no we're going forward by going back, its not so much a time warp as it is a time shifting... so although this is 8 hours old this comment I am really only just heading off the work, when I get back I will have another 8 hours again and quite possibly comment on a post that wasn't created when I commented on it...
