HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My Dear Friends,

I love Christmas.  I love the smells, the songs, the tastes, the decorations, the snow, and best of all... I love the movies.  Because I don't have a family, I often spend Christmas alone, but that doesn't bother me if I have a good stock of my favorite Christmas movies to snuggle up in front of with some of my favorite Christmas snacks.  Well, Christmas was bound to be a little odd this year anyway, since I was heading to my new home in Turkey, so I prepared myself for it by conducting a thorough search on youtube for all the Christmas movies I could think of and adding them to my favorites.  I also ran across quite a few movies and shorts that I had never heard of before, but that looked intriguing.  All in all, I favorited over 100 "Part One"'s, and I was looking forward to a very nostalgic Christmas, even if I would be on the beach...lol.

Then, I got here, and my plans got changed a little.  I started out on the Mediterranean coast as planned, but the situation got ugly pretty quick, (more about that later) , so I spent Christmas Eve day sitting in a bus station waiting for my night bus to Bartin, on the Black Sea Coast, 14 hours away.  Arriving late on Christmas morning through the snowy, forested  mountains, I got comfy in my friend's flat and spent the whole day catching up on my sleep while she was at work.

That night, I got set to share some of my fave movies with my friend, and finally get my little Christmas high, only to find out that YOUTUBE HAS BEEN BANNED IN TURKEY!

Oh noooooooooooooooo, Mr. Bill!  Well, there's a way around it, and many Turks are watching YouTube by going through a proxy system like Vtunnel.com, and I can do that, too, but it's more complicated than it sounds.  I can click on videos to watch them on YouTube, but I can't use the search function or sign in to get to my favorites or my subscriptions.  I tried to get around that by doing a search on Google Videos, because I can paste the URL into the proxy search engine and watch the videos, but I have to have the URL.  And I'm also having a problem with Google Video... when I click on anything on their page... nothing happens.

So, all my Christmas faves.... and all my subscriptions... gone.  My prospects of a cozy Christmas in front of the tube?  gone.     :(

Here's where you come in.  You can still help save Christmas for old kruu (even if it's over, I can kid myself into thinking it's still Christmas... I've got enough snow to convince me).  If you would be so kind, please leave me a little Christmas present.  I'm making a list (and checking it twice) of all the videos that I can remember.  If you want to do a good deed, please, please, please, go to YouTube and find Part One of any of these movies or TV episodes, and paste the URL into a comment.  You would make me sooooo happy.

And if you come across something cute that's not on the list, feel free to add that, too.    Here's the list... I may not have the exact titles correct on a lot of these.  A big THANK YOU to anyone who can help, and Happy New Year!

If I think of any more, I might add to the list, but that's all I can remember for now.  I'm so bummed out, because I've read on the internet that some people who visited Turkey couldn't even access YouTube on their computers after they left Turkey!  Talk about censorship!

Please help... Thank you, thank you, thank you!  :)

That is so wild you can't watch You Tube in Turkey! That's insane. You only want part one of stuff? The Ref is one of my fave movies to watch at Christmas, so here's part one of that for you. But they have the other parts too, if you want more...

    The Grinch part one

Oh crap!  I can't see the embedded videos here either.  Ummm, could I bother you for the URLs?  I know I can paste them in and get it, because I've done it.  Thanks e_t.  Happy New Year!

Oh, by the way, the reason I'm only asking for Part One, is that I should be able to get the related videos to show up on the You Tube page through the proxy, so I can follow them around and get the whole movie on my own.  It would be too much work for someone to paste all the parts in here.  Thank you soooooo much!
  • evil_twin said on Dec 27, 2008....
Okay, here is the URL for the Grinch part one:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6S3KM92s-pg

And here is the Ref part one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8sPCJwluejU

Do you need the links to the other parts or are you cool with just the first ones?
  • evil_twin said on Dec 27, 2008....
If those links work for you okay, I can find more on your list. I have nothing else to do right now :-P So let me know....
  • kruuyai said on Dec 27, 2008....
ginger:  Thanks... I couldn't see hers either (I tried).  I just realized this about the embedded videos when I was reading queenie's latest post.  All the internet postings about the bans said that we could see embedded videos, but no such luck.  Hope you and Grape had a Merry Christmas.  Happy New Year!  {{{hugs}}}}}}}   (I just don't know how you get your hugs so even!  :)
  • kruuyai said on Dec 27, 2008....
e_t:  Cool!  It works!  I just past the URL into the Vtunnel proxy, and I get the YouTube page with the film, and all the related videos, so I can get the rest of the parts.  Thank you so much.  You've made me very happy.  :)
  • evil_twin said on Dec 27, 2008....
Woo-hoo! It works! Okay, well I can find a few more for you :-) Merry belated Christmas, Kruu! Now I'll get to work finding more of your list....

Mr. Bean (I'm not sure if this the right one though...) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pWtbJ1Uf-90

I'm having trouble finding lots of these because they'd been removed :-( But those a few at least!
  • kruuyai said on Dec 27, 2008....
That is one thing that sucks about YouTube, is that the videos get taken down so fast.  If I could at least get google to work properly, I'm sure I could find these videos on other hosting sites besides YouTube, but I've been having a problem with google even since before I came to Turkey.  Don't know what that's all about.  Thanks for your valiant efforts.  :)

  • kruuyai said on Dec 27, 2008....
Lucy:  Thanks, I can't wait to watch it!  The reason they banned YouTube in Turkey is that there was a video that was offensive to Turks, because it said something negative about their national hero, Ataturk, the founder of the Turkish nation.  The video was posted by some kid in Greece.  The Turkish government wanted YouTube to remove the video, and they didn't, so Turkey banned YouTube (I didn't even know they could do that, but.... they have the technology.. don't know why they didn't just ban the link to that specific video).  Anyway, YouTube has since removed the video, but it is still banned here.

pusscat:  Hi, and thanks for all the links.  For a dinosaur, you do pretty well.  ;-)  I think I have good taste in films too... lol.

Mark Morris's version of the Nutcracker Suite, otherwise known as The Hard Nut.

Lucy:  Thanks, I will!  (I guess I should consider myself lucky..  a journalist was put to death for "insulting Turkishness).  :)

pickers: lol..  when I first read your comment, I thought it said Mark Mom's version of the Nutcracker Suite.... you remember mom, don't you?  And I thought you were telling me to "mark" the video or something like that.  Anyway, ole Mark is going to have a hard act to follow if he's going to outshine our dear ole mom!  Thanks for the link!
