As this holiday season gets closer and closer to the end we must remember to be nice to our atheist friends.  We must remember that Christmas is a religious holiday.  Just that statement alone can strike fear into the atheist heart.

     Say it in slow motion...

CHRIST....mas... is... a... RELIGIOUS.... HOLY..... DAY

It just drips with connotations of reverence, and church, and praying, saying grace, and all the awful terrible uncomfortable things that make atheists cringe.

With Christmas comes Christmas lights, trees, cards, decorations, people saying Merry Christmas, and many other revolting things that try to indoctrinate people into religion.  Now being Christmas is a religious holiday and our country along with freedom OF religion we also have freedom FROM religion.  So we must do our best to prevent such things from coming in contact with atheists.

We must also put emphasis on something that is like sunlight to a vampire, the dreaded nativity scene.  This extremist religious tool is used to indoctrinate unsuspecting atheists and has often made atheist heads explode.  This cannot be shown anywhere in public and if you have one in your house put a black sheet over it when atheists come to visit.

To keep our atheist friends free FROM religion we must keep watch.  When they visit, walk by your house, or come anywhere near, be on guard and cover up anything that could cause undo strain on the atheist mindset.  Anything else is religious persecution. Many atheists faced persecution for many years in schools where the religious relic known as the Christmas tree was posted in schools to trap unsuspecting children.  Thank non-God for valiant groups like the ACLU who have put a stop to such terrible outrages to our atheist citizens.

You better watch out ... you will bite your tongue off.

I am a little unclear as to the meaning your comment.  I hope you know that nearly this entire post is satire designed to point out how blatantly stupid this issue has become.

I expect someday an ALCU lawyer and going to attend his kids school concert and see a nativity scene on the school property and literally turn to stone.

I live in a predominantly Jewish area.  So I notice the lack of Christmas celebrations but it doesn't bother me.  I have better things to worry about (but I have adopted the attitude that religion belongs in the Church and home, not in society).  It doesn't bother me if you are atheist as long as you are not militant.  It can be offensive to religious people if people start pulling down crucifixes and Christmas decorations.

Good comment and I agree with you.  However I think we need to define what is considered religious and allowed in public and this should be defined by the majority.

I don't think it is possible to be completely neutral, I don't think we are a religious country but I think religion plays a big part in it.
  • ALIENated said on Dec 26, 2008....

Yes, I understand you were speaking satirically. That is called tongue-in-cheek
(not sure why). When you speak tongue-in-cheek (satirically) for too long, you
run the risk of biting your tongue.

I think private school is the answer. I recently got an advertising booklet in the
mail. There was an article in it (or an ad, I cannot remember) that said there
were over 300 private schools in this area. I also heard on the Hugh Hewitt
radio show recently that school districts were having to close some schools
because the students were just not there anymore. Of course, they also said
that live births (probably because of increased abortion) started to drop in the
early 90s (probably when Clinton took over) so attendance was down for that
reason. I figure it is also because of private / church schools.

Schools do not have to teach religion. They just need to teach the principals
set forth in religion. If anything needs to be taught at home, it should be sex
education. I want children to be taught abstinence first, not about condoms
    and abortions.

We need to take our kids out of government schools anyway. They are mainly
concerned with creating good liberal Democrats are far as I can tell. I have
no doubts about that when it comes to college professors. People should fight
to keep politics out of schools as hard as they have fought to keep God and
    Christmas out of government schools.

I agree, I think private school is the answer.  Interesting though I don't think it will ever change until we change it.  The government makes a lot of money in school taxes.

The right wing is seeking to change that.  They are the people who seem quite comfortable with a theocracy.  Note that it is impossible for a clear thinking individual (read atheist) to ever be elected to office.  To be elected one must believe--or pretend to believe--in some mythical god, preferably the particular god put forth by the Christian mythology.

Would you elect someone who proclaimed a real and profound belief in Zeus?  Well, substitute 'god' for 'Thor' and you can imagine how atheists see you.
  • stopmediabias said on Dec 29, 2008....

No I would not elect someone who proclaimed a real and profound belief in Zeus, Zeus is a fictional character and a real and profound belief in him would be crazy.

I think most atheists are full of shit.  Most people who actually and personally believe in God have a certain heartbeat, a feeling, some kind of pulse that tells them there is something far beyond this tiny existence that moves us thoughout our lifetime and eventually moves us in the right direction.  Atheists experience this but are too afraid to admit it.

There is this delusion if you dare say you believe in God that must mean you have to pick up a Bible or get up early on Sunday and go to church.  If they could get past this and except that a belief in God is a personal exceptional way of moving past our misery and moving forward they would be a lot better off.

Every civilization has had its own god/gods or creation myth that the people believed in with conviction.  Each in turn has looked back at the previous gods as quaint and silly beliefs.  What makes you think your god is any different?

As they say, we're all atheists about all other gods.  Some of us just go one god further.
  • stopmediabias said on Jan 01, 2009....

Because our God has survived the test of time.  Like I said before in another post the worlds three major religions that encompass about 90% of the planet, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam all have a collective belief.  A belief in one God.

We have miraculous things that lead us to believing in God, it is a belief that is based on knowledge, faith, and a personal willingness to open your mind.

  • ALIENated said on Jan 02, 2009....

It is pretty simple. Some believe God created Man, and some believe Man
created God. Both take faith, but only one of those two groups is willing
to recognize that. Christians are commissioned to spread the gospel, but
that is about it. For me, I take the lead-a-horse-to-water approach,
which is all we are actually commissioned to do. If we offer the gospel
and people reject it, we are to shake the dust from our shoes and move
on. There is a God, He sent His son Jesus to die for our sins, and if we
accept Him and that, we will be saved. And that is the only way we
will be saved. Not by believing in Mohammad, not by believing in Joseph
Smith, not by believing in anything but Jesus. If you reject that, that is
your problem, not mine. It is a free gift from God. See how simple that is.
God is not God because He won a popularity contest with Man. God just is.
As He said "I AM". Atheists like to draw believers into some sort of "logical"
arguement about proving God, when they are the ones that should be
proving He does not exist. That, of course, is impossible just as proving
He does exist is impossible. I prefer to believe in God because I believe in
right and wrong, good and bad, etc. God's way is good and Man's way is
usually bad. That is fairly simple also. People usually prove to themselves
that God does not exist because they listen to stupid arguements based
on misinformation supposedly in the Bible or because they do not
know what the Bible is really saying or how it all ties together. If something
seems wrong or incorrect about the Bible, it is you that does not understand.
It is not the Bible that is incorrect. Face it. Even if the Bible was not
inspired by God, the people who put is together would have corrected it
by now anyway. All those Catholic bible books were left out because they
do not jive with the rest of the Bible for some reason, no matter how good
they sound. The Quoran and the Book of Mormon were written by mortal
men, uninspired by God. That is fairly simple as well, and a matter of fact,
    not faith.

Why does religion get a free pass when it come to logic and reason?  No more, I say.  If you want me to believe in a super being that supposedly has power to control everything then I want to see some proof.  It's not up to me to prove god does not exist.  It's up to you to prove it does.

Meanwhile, I'm free to pursue a truly moral life based on the Social Contract.  I don't see that religion has made humanity all that humane.  Just look at yourself vis-a-vis torture.

We all ready know he exists, you insist on seeing proof when there is none that you would recognize.  Faith is part of everyday life.  We know that if a person honestly opens their mind and looks at all the information and eventually makes to a point they believe (based on circumstancial evidence) then they are never alone.

Atheists will scoff at the notion of blind faith while at the same time toeing the line when it comes to evolution, global warming, and about a zillion other things that require quite a bit a faith along with knowledge to swallow.

I don't see that religion has made humanity all that humane.  Just look at yourself vis-a-vis torture."

Religion not God.  A belief in God is far better than a lack of.  Nothing me or Alien or anyone is going to say that will change your belief.  It is a personal journey you must take.  We are mearly saying that over here on our side, life is better.

I could care less what you believe. I am instructed to tell you about Jesus and
God, the rest is up to you. If the Holy Spirit has not shown you the way, you may
just be lost for all eternity. As I understand it, some have hearts so hardened that
they will never believe, they will never know the truth. This whole life of ours is
simply a period in which we are all given a chance to follow God or follow the
prince of darkness. I suppose you can pursue a moral life without God, but on
what do you base it? I am not familiar with any social contract. If you agree with
the World about right and wrong, I doubt that you agree with God about right
and wrong. You most likely think abortion is OK. God does not. You most likely
think that homosexuality is OK. God does not. If you do not accept Jesus as a
sacrifice for your sins, you are in a relationship with God similar to the Jews, a
relationship that demands adherence to the Law and blood sacrifices because
no human is perfect, no human can meet God's requirements. If you believe in
no afterlife, then who cares. But can you really take that chance? What if you
are wrong? And therein lies the problem. Most atheists cannot conceive of
being wrong because they know it all, they know everything there is to know.
They are god. Some would rather rule in hell than serve in heaven. Of course,
they will not be the ones ruling in hell. They will be the ones suffering ... if
there is an afterlife, and if there is a God.

No faith required. Just science.  That's the beauty of it.

I'm thinking more and more that religious people are offended by atheists because the very existence of atheists makes them appear silly.  Kind of like a child feels when he finally finds out that Santa Claus is a hoax.
  • stopmediabias said on Jan 04, 2009....

You guys love playing the science card.  Just like it was science that told us polar bears are going extinct because they "look tired."

95% of the worlds population holds a belief in a higher power and a great many of them are scientists and other smart people, not religious fanatics.  The only people who appear silly are the atheists who represent the teeny tiny minority of people who really don't know where they fit into society.  Do people respect Michael Newdow?  No they laugh at him and see him as a spec of fly shit that should be ignored.

The most horrible thing a human can face is dying alone.  A belief in God means you are never alone.

  • kelly said on Jan 04, 2009....
So, it is as I suspected then.  Belief in god comes not out of any kind of evidence but out of fear.  It's a shame, actually.  It seems to me that belief in a god keeps one from fully exploring the inner landscape of the mind.  Too terrified to think something may be out of your control?  Just hand the problem over to a god.

Just because a great deal of people may believe something does not make it true.  A while back the most popular TV show on the planet was Bay Watch....

By the way, thanks for the Michael Newdow reference.  I wasn't really up on him.  He does, however, represent my desire for strong separation of church and state.  I'm not sure why religious folk would be against that, actually.  Keep the public areas neutral and everybody is free to worship whatever they please on their own ground.  Or not worship, as the case may be.
  • stopmediabias said on Jan 06, 2009....

Kelly-It's sad, you are so lost.

The very notion of a belief in God revolves around a relentless quest for knowledge.

Fear of God is a not a fear from some type of harm but of fear of not living up to expectations.  Simliar to the fear you have or had for your father or mother.

"Too terrified to think something may be out of your control?  Just hand the problem over to a God."

Bingo, you are starting to catch on.  You should learn how to pray and try it just to see what happens.

  • kelly said on Jan 07, 2009....
Well, I guess we're making the same point here.  The only difference is, I find belief in a god to be silly and childish.
