Once a upon a time, a mother wanted a specific dessert so much, she wanted a second one, she almost took her's son's share, not knowing that he had not had his yet. When the son saw how eager his mother wanted it, he let go, even if his mother already had hers and he had none.
Today, same mother was reluctant to take the last fried egg at breakfast. Her daughter was not at the table. It makes you wonder what contributed to the favoritism. The only clue there is: she has higher take home pay.
Such prejudice from somebody else is easier to take but, it hurts if it comes from one of your own. The sad truth is, in today's culture of immediate gratification, this is unlikely to be an isolated case. Financial prejudice from non-relatives is even more common.
There was a time in my life when I had the equivalent of none. Now I look back and realize, it was actually a blessing and something to be thankful for. At that time, I had the privilege of knowing who will stick with me during rough times.
Society has very rigid standards that motivates us to work hard and forget what really matters. Well, gold is not all that glitters.
