What do you think of long-distance relationships?

More than once have my friends told me how stupid I am to keep a relationship with a girl in another country. I've managed to prove some of them wrong, since I've maintained my relationship with her for year and a half already. But still, I should note that we've never ever seen each other in person. We met about two and a half years ago, in some TV forum. Things went from a healthy friendship to something deeper, ending in pure love.

Do you think you can love someone you've never "met"?

People wonder how I can TRUST her, being that we're so far away. They also wonder how I can be faithful (no girlfriend and no fooling around over here) to someone I don't even "know". Guess they don't get it. Just yesterday, a friend of mine 'fessed up and went on telling me how she thinks I'm the biggest moron in the world.

I really love my girlfriend, and she loves me too. She's just a couple of months from coming to my country. She decided she would study over here, for us to be near. I dare you tell me it's not love :)

Saludos.

i dare to tell you that it's love! :)
same goes to me, I met my boyfriend while chatting in IRC
6 years ago. same as both of you, we're starting from a
healthy friendship, then comes to pure love. It takes about
a year before we declare as a couple and six months after
that we met in person. we're still couple until now, about 4 yrs i guess. we only met at 5-10 times a year..ya becoz although we're in same country but in different states..
but he will come to meet me at the end of this month! :)
can't wait to see him, it is about 2 month since i met him!

i believe that yes, it's possible to love someone you've never met. however, i think it's important to say that often, people can often (even subconsciously) not present an accurate view of who they are online.

Selasih: That's a great love story, indeed :) It's almost like Internet is the new cupid LOL. And 4 years of relationship is a lot, I admire you! :) You have the chance of meeting him, so good. I hope you have a nice meeting this month, after so much waiting ;)

silverwhisper: That's a great opinion. In fact, a very accurate one. We have talked about it, since there's less chance of showing our defects online, we've made sure the other one knows how we really are. As far as I know, I've presented myself just like I am.

I am in similiar situation as you are, and about same time in relationship with my fiance, but it is not as wonderful and bautiful how it supoused to be and big difference is we are gay couple. We are 2 and half years together and about two months ago he came to my country which is an ocean away to visit me and us to spend time together and what else. For my 23 years, that month i can honestly say that it was the best time in my life i ever had, the time we spent together and did everything together. I havent been with anyone else before him, but he was. Since we are gay couple and live in two countries as a 2nd class citizens (He in usa and me in serbia), we have no option of immigrating and starting our life together. Right now things look bad for us, because of that it is slowly starts destroying our relationship. Right now i dont see a good path and exit from it. I wish i could immigrate to usa but it is the country hardest immigration system right now, and i am not that rich or experienced ... well i hope better days come and we find our exit if we still be together. i can only pray. I just thought i could share my long distance relationship expirience. I love him more than my life

silverwhisper: Thanks, ed. I loved her so much, I didn't want her to fall in love with an "image". I had to show myself as I really am.

vlbo: Quite a problem you have there, mate. Your last line is the greatest one, and trust me, if you love him more than your life, then nothing more than good things await you two. Just hang on... true love resists everything, ok? :) I hope you guys find a country that takes good care of you, the world always needs a little bit more love.

Justop26: thanks! :) he will come to visit me tomorrow and
spend a few days here, with me. And for you, i hope both
of you will be together forever :)

Selasih: Wow! It's so close now (if he hasn't arrived yet)! Please, in the name of all long-distance relationships, have a great time together and enjoy it to the max.

Thanks a lot for your wishes. I really hope we do, too. :)

She's 28. She's mentioned in my last blog, about a really good day.

Today I met her daughter. Her son is seven, who I haven't met yet. I'm sure we'll get on fine, I have a stepdad who was pretty awesome when him and my mum started out. We're ...
