I was searching the web for information and courses on writing and I stumbled across one called "How to Write Like a Pro" available from

http://www.ed2go.com/pennfoster

It's about how to structure works of fiction for maximum impact. It runs for six weeks and is very reasonably priced at $99 USD.

The syllabus describes all the elements that go into writing an emotionally impactful story and provides a sort of template for you to follow in constructing your work.

If you're interested in learning to write better, you might check it out. I'm signing up for the next class, maybe I'll see you there.

I think you already have a nice foundation. You don't need to plunk your money down. Just keep practicing! I have found in just writing at least once a day that I have become much more prolific.

Now, as to writing better, there are lots of wonderful books out there dealing with the subject. Also, there are many sites that you can Google. There is a site called Writing.com (www.writing.com), for instance, that copyrights your work and displays it on the web. There is peer editing and criticism (if they read it, they MUST rate it). There are contests and on-line workshops, also. The base membership there is FREE, but it costs a little more to 'upgrade'. Well, you could at least check it out.

And it is not the only place, just one of many.

Try a search using keywords such as 'free writing sites, workshops'. I would suggest if you couldn't find some success in that first to then try the workshop you mentioned.

Just a thought. Don't think me critical. If I thought you needed more work, then maybe. I think you just need more practice and a little confidence. You'll naturally refine your technique as you go. Only a foolish man fails to learn from his mistakes.

Jade: Thanks for commenting. I've done quite a bit with non-fiction, especially going back to my first career days, so I'm not exactly new. But when it comes to writing fiction, well, my bag of tricks is pretty empty.

This class talks about structuring your story for maximum impact, it gives you a framework to design your storyline and plot against. That's something I really need in order to understand how to begin the process of creating a coherent, cohesive storyline. They have some really interesting ideas there that I've not seen talked about elsewhere and it really has my curiosity piqued.

I remember vaguely touching on some of this stuff in undergrad lit classes, but they go into some pretty substantial structural detail in this class. Right up my alley, at any rate.

    :-)

I would not enter this course, becaus I have learnt about writing in college, and the price appears to me, s very steep, I can't afford that much.

However, I have supplied this link to my friens, who may join this. Thanks RMLP. for putting this link here.

The urge to write fiction seems God given for some, a learned skill for others. One thing is certain – it requires practice and a particular mindset. But, if you’re a beginner, where do you start?...

A short story, or perhaps the beginning of a long story....
Just a little something I've been working on....
