So yesterday morning before my life went to hell in a basket I managed to get a walk in before the rainstorm hit.  It was kind of early and cold, but it felt good to walk.

 apartment view

This is what I see when I drive into the apartment complex.  The unit I will be moving from doesn't sit on the water edge, but faces inwards to the center of the complex.

I walked down the the mall and stopped to get batteries for my camera.  It's a new store to me so I didn't know where to find them.  As I was going down this aisle I couldn't help but add yet one more thing to my weird-ology collection.

I'm guessing that Dr. Tremor is the store's generic version of Dr. Pepper?  I did not buy it, but mostly because I was on foot and didn't want to carry it the mile or so home.  Not a bad price.

On the way home I took a small detour.  A man was walking ahead of me with his dog.  All of a sudden this really indignant goose started honking and posturing from across the street at the dog.  I stood and watched it for about 5 minutes before they got past the cranky goose.  As I continued I met this lady.

Apparently she's a regular with the birds.  They followed her from across the street over to the channel just past her.  She's very popular with her bag of bread.

Too bad the rest of the day didn't go as smoothly.

The apartment complex looks beautiful Uni - I will have to catch up since I did not realize you were moving.

I am very popular with the geese also - we have a little duck pond near the university.  I like to go there when people are getting on my nerves and I need to kick back a bit - guess you can say it's my spot to go "duck off"  LOL when I am hiding from my students and/ or various other annoyances.

unique- well, the name of the Dr. drink sure fits California.

We used to go to the beach area in my hometown with popcorn for the ducks. It takes about a minute and a half to develop lifelong loud and endless quacking friends (that's the ducks, not women).

wishy - LOL @ "duck off"!!!  I'm pretty sure if she showed up without the bread she'd lose her popularity status ;)

    BTV - I hadn't made the tremor/california connections, but you're right!

Uni, what neat pictures.  I'm glad you shared that, thank you.  Certainly a beautiful set set of buildings, something you'd see in a catalog or something you know?  I'm happy that you could at least have had that peaceful walk before you had to deal with the shittiness to come.  The bird lady reminds me of the cat lady from The Simpsons.

Hege - yes, this and time spent with a friend were the highlight of my day.

Hello uniquely-ironic,the way I see it you're not loosing out on so much. The apartment complex looks like military housing and sits low on the waters edge. Maybe it's the illusion of the shot but I wouldn't sleep so well even if I lived on the top floor. Trust me, I've been through floods before in the past.
I guess somebody came up with a clever name for the drink, yes I believe it fits the area.
As far as the woman with the ducks, she appears to be looking for Donald ?
I wouldn't be surprised if she worked for the local car wash.  Was this site down for a while ?

i'm sorry you have to move from there :(  the water is pretty.

  • uniquely-ironic said on Dec 15, 2008....
CM - in answer to your questions. Yes she does and yes it was.  Out here living on the water's edge is a very desireable location.

fraggles - yes, I'm sorry too.  There was a unit up for sale, but I'm pretty sure it's in the $500K plus range.  A little rich for my blood.

You take amazing pics uni.  I love the vision you gave us of the goose honking indignantly at the dog ha ha!  I love birds - any size, any shape.  i am often seen around my work grounds with binoculars.  Birds do know which side their bread is buttered too (pun intended hee hee).

I do hope where you're moving too will be good for you uni.  New Year, new start :-)

pusscat - I'm glad you like the pics.  Yes, birds have an uncanny ability to know who is gonna be their sugardaddy ;)

Dr. Tremor? Sounds like a cross between Dr. Pepper and Jolt. Maybe it's a warning that you will seriously gain weight if you drink too much.

    Hi Uni:

Can you given a step by step on how to post a photo?
  • uniquely-ironic said on Dec 15, 2008....

hotaka - or that you'll shake with caffiene overdose!

bewell - 1)pick the picture from flickr 2)click on all sizes 3) copy the web text stuff just below it 4) copy it into your blog, but on the Edit HTML tab (not the compose tab) and Voila!

Beautiful looking apts Uni..... that's a nice flock of ducks and geese :^)   are they seasonal or they stay there all winter? Down here in Miami there was an influx of ducks that I don't know who started but they're all over now in just about every neighborhood that has proximity to a canal or waterway.

Is that an energy drink that Dr.Tremor? I've never seen it down here.

    Hi Lucy !!!
  • hotaka said on Dec 16, 2008....
Don't you know it. I actually had the shakes today after a cup of coffee with sugar on an empty stomach. I had to fuel up with lunch and chocolate in order to stop the shakes.
  • uniquely-ironic said on Dec 16, 2008....
RC - well, I think the birds are year round.  There are also Egrets now and then.  The Dr. Tremor was the store's immitation of Dr. Pepper I think, so technically it's just a soft drink.

Lu - I know, but where were you yesterday?! [pouts]

antoniusestrillo - Hi and yes, they are nice.  Too bad I'm moving.

hotaka - I have to be careful with that too.  But in my case it's a couple of double shot lattes that do me in :)
