Okay, I got this from an email fwd and just thought of posting it in here, too. Feel free to air your thoughts on it.

This is an absolutely beautiful tribute to our United States of America. Say what
you may ~ we still have the best country in the world. I thought this to be worthy
of passing on. And an Australian wrote it. Many people love America - many
people don't. But it is what it is and we are blessed (my humble opinion).

To Kill an American

You probably missed it in the rush of news last week, but there was actually a report that someone in Pakistan had published in a newspaper an offer of a reward to anyone who killed an American, any American.

So an Australian dentist wrote an editorial the following day to let everyone know what an American is . So they would know when they found one. (Good one, mate!!!!)

"An American is English, or French, or Italian, Irish, German, Spanish, Polish, Russian or Greek. An American may also be Canadian, Mexican, African, Indian, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Australian, Iranian, Asian, or Arab, or Pakistani or Afghan.

An American may also be a Comanche, Cherokee, Osage, Blackfoot, Navaho, Apache, Seminole or one of the many other tribes known as native Americans.

An American is Christian, or he could be Jewish, or Buddhist, or Muslim.
In fact, there are more Muslims in America than in Afghanista n. The only difference is that in America they are free to worship as each of them chooses.

An American is also free to believe in no religion. For that he will answer only to God, not to the government, or to armed thugs claiming to speak for the government and for God.

An American lives in the most prosperous land in the history of the world.
The root of that prosperity can be found in the Declaration of Independence, which recognizes the God given right of each person to the pursuit of happiness.

An American is generous. Americans have helped out just about every other nation in the world in their time of need, never asking a thing in return.

When Afghanistan was over-run by the Soviet army 20 years ago, Americans came with arms and supplies to enable the people to win back their country!

As of the morning of September 11, Americans had given more than any other nation to the poor in Afghanistan. Americans welcome the best of everything...the best products, the best books, the best music, the best food, the best services. But they also welcome the least.

The national symbol of America, The Statue of Liberty , welcomes your tired and your poor, the wretched refuse of your teeming shores, the homeless, tempest tossed. These in fact are the people who built America.

Some of them were working in the Twin Towers the morning of September 11, 2001 earning a better life for their families. It's been told that the WorldTrade Center victims were from at least 30 different countries, cultures, and first languages, including those that aided and abetted the terrorists.

So you can try to kill an American if you must. Hitler did. So did General Tojo, and Stalin, and Mao Tse-Tung, and other blood-thirsty tyrants in the world. But, in doing so you would just be killing yourself. Because Americans are not a particular people from a particular place. They are the embodiment of the human spirit of freedom. Everyone who holds to that spirit, everywhere, is an American.

Please keep this going!
Pass this around the World ?
Then pass it around again.
It says it all, for all of us

Jeez... indoctrination in the 'American Dream' sure does work. The ideology of the Declaration of Independence "which recognizes the God given right of each person to the pursuit of happiness" is fine but the truth is very different.

How about the millions of Native Americans killed in the gluttonous lust for wealth that created America?? didn't they have a godgiven right to pursue happiness??

How about African Americans?? when the 'Declaration of Independence' was signed they were slaves and didn't get any real rights until a few decades ago. Didn't they have a godgiven right to pursue happiness??

Godgiven right to pursue happiness my ass...

I'm an American; proud of it, and glad you posted this.

Nobody said that America and Americans have never made mistakes.

But I challenge anyone to find a better place to live; and if you do, please, by all means, go there.

Let's face the truth here... the only true 'American' is a Native American... the rest of you 'Americans' are the ancestors of colonial europeans who raped, pillaged and murdered their way across what is now America taking the land off the indigenous population who previously had no concept of land ownership.

The 'American Dream' is just that... a dream, it is an ideal that has no validity in reality... the reality is a paranoid nation divided on racial and economic grounds that uses up half the worlds energy resources and wages war to protect and support it's gluttonous excess while Africa starves...

    I'm sure you're very proud...

RodSerling, thanks, I looked up and read America is the World.

To all readers, there is no perfect country. Each country around the world has its own imperfections and not-so-clean history.

I think the point being addressed in that article is that there has been so much hate going on around the world that have resulted to undesirable violence. One thing is the hate for certain groups of people (okay, I made it general so we can look at it at a wider view to pertain to different societies). There's a saying that I'd like to share: Don't hate, but appreciate. And with that, it applies to everybody and everything in any aspect of our lives.

madstorm, the native americans were from asia. even they were immigrants. was it wrong to kill them? of course. but if we hadn't done it, the spanish would have. i'm not proud that we snatched their land up from under them, but it's a prime example of darwinism. the more advanced culture will always eventually overtake the less advanced culture, even if that culture is as unthreatening as the practically defenseless native american (immigrants). it was bound to happen, but the founders of our country were simply the first to do it. not that it was right or honorable, but what's done is done, and cannot be undone.

Yes indeed radioclash... Native Americans were from Asia. So you prove my point. There is no such thing as an 'American'... or any other nationality. We are all related to each other...
