just came back from lunch next door. is 'economy rice' .. here is malaysia we have so call economy rice, which is actually white rice and selections of dishes.. is a self-service kind of food stall .. usually here in Penang, 3 dishes, with a small bowl of soup and white rice cost about RM3.50 to RM7.00 depending on what you had picked. if in KL I think it will be more expensive right?!

but those who are working in multinational factory like agilent, they have subsidised lunch, 'economy rice' like this they may be just paying about RM1.00 only. how lucky they are.

so what do you have lunch usually :) ..

I usually do not take lunch. I do have breakfast though, and dinner is of course the main meal of the day.

But if I have lunch it is usually meehoon fish head soup. I things are a little more expensive in double 'K'

It should read "I think things are a little more expensive here in double 'K'"
  • Selasih said on Aug 23, 2006....
Double 'K'? is that Kota Kinabalu?
I'm in Kota Kinabalu..yup, here is a little more expensive.
before this i'm staying at A.Star for about 3 years..
i like the food there..delicious n much cheaper than here..
  • GMNIMan said on Aug 23, 2006....
Yup! I think there are many more of us here at DC.
  • GMNIMan said on Aug 23, 2006....
chingform, can you delete the duplicate post, it should be SC and not DC.
  • chingform said on Aug 23, 2006....
oops GMNIMAN. I am sorry. i deleted the wrong one.
today.. mind a bit on the wrong side. going hyre wire.

yeah I hear from my fren who was previously staying here in peanng, now moving to KK. he told me wow the food there is much much more expensive. but the food bigger in size .. he and his wife sometime could share one bowl of bihun fish head soup. haha. so he said devided half still equal back to penang price la.

I'd always take economy rice for lunch because then only I will feel full. I will not take Hokkien Mee, Koay Teow Th'ng because I will feel extremely hungry by 4pm.
Also, the term 'economy rice' is very misleading. Economy rice is not cheap. A rice with three dishes could cost up to RM5.00. That's not cheap! And I haven't mentioned about Nasi Kandar yet. That's worse!

I once work in an MNC factory. Unfortunately, there is no subsidised lunch like what they have in Agilent. Darn, I should have worked in Agilent!

Penang food is as expensive as KL food nowadays. Especially in those so called 'rich people area' in Penang. But Penang food is so much better compared to KL.
  • chingform said on Aug 23, 2006....
hi bluesnake..i 100% agree with u. the terms economy is really misleading.

yes, those in agilent is really lucky!

penang food is much better then in kl, i think at least for penangites will think so, for example, char koay teow, and hokkien mee, there is difficult to find one in kl that can compete the penang's.

Hmm... I think the economy should go to 'Nasi Ayam', Fried/Soup/Curry - Mee, Mee Hoon and Kuey Teow, Mee Jawa/Bandung. But not at the Mamak Restaurant please. Your economy will be all sort of Roti, 'Nasi Lemak Bungkus' and Maggie Mee.

Mixed Rice. Forget it. If my budget is tight, I prefer to take any of cuisine mention above. Definitely I am safe. Sometimes you think that fish dish is cheaper. Forget it, it may cost higher than taking chicken or beef.

So 2 KK - Kuala Kangsar/Kota Kinabalu. I gues CingForm and Selasih are from Penang. Anybody from Klang Valley? I'm one.

  • paidinblood said on Aug 23, 2006....
I don't come from Malaysia but I definitely understand what you mean. My lunch usually consists of rice and a vegetable dish at a local fastfood store because it's cheap. That's not to say that I'm a vegetarian though.
